I'm a retired engineer with too much time on my hands. I think I have a game or two in me.

reflections on gaming

Bidoc Blog

I am very disappointed in the draconian DRM implemented by many large game publishing companies today. Most times you don't even get a complete copy of the game, merely a stub to connect to an online server and run the game from there.

Call me old fashioned, but to me, half the fun of a game was, after completing it, I could poke around in the files to see what I could change.

I still have every game I ever purchased, most in the box. I also have some pretty good mods I made for games like Freelancer, Doom and Unreal. From time to time, I like to go thru them and play them again. Thank you DOSBox.

While I do enjoy PvP, I don't live to play PvP. PvP is not the point of the game for me. Some of you may think, "He probably sucks at PvP". Well, in some games I do suck. In others, I ROCK!! If a game is well written, I can become immersed in the adventure. I still get shivers when I'm surprised by a revenant in Doom.

Anyway, you can expect old-school style games from me, with little or no DRM. You'll definitely get a complete copy of the game. Maybe a registration key or something similar.
