Game review

UI-wise:
The main menu is hard to read thanks to using the BF3 "glow-worms mating" technique of UI design.
There's an unskippable splash, and if you hit escape during it, the game exits. Classy. At it turns out, hitting escape causes the game to exit regardless of what you're doing. Is there a pause button? None that it told me!
All in all, the menus are very unintuitive. I'm still not sure what the threshold is between the game letting me replay a level, or requiring me to refuse two social media requests before I am able.

Gameplay-wise, I don't ask for handholding, but sometimes you have to throw me a bone:
The gas clouds: I died once or twice before I realized I was allowed to touch the gas but not the balls inside them. Also, when I figured that out, the gas killed me.
The "Core": The hint you're given: "Shred the core with your laser!" Obviously what that means is: Use your drill. Yeah, I died a few more times before I found out that there are exactly two weapons I can be using, and in any given situation only one will work, and he told me to use the wrong one.
This game proudly announces that it's about exploration, while each level plays completely linearly, with a boss battle that prevents you from moving.

Technically:
During boss battles, this game would occasionally randomly freeze (usually causing my death) for a second or two on my computer, which 3-4x all of the recommended system requirements. conveniently enough, these requirements aren't listed here or on the official site; I grabbed them off Game-Debate. Is this another one of those situations where they're not holding my hand, and I'm supposed to just guess if I can run it?
The game can't display my screen's native resolution (1366x768 is NOT uncommon).

I'm out of characters so I'll finish by saying that you will get tired of this guy's voice really quick, so turn it off.
2 Stars for OST; 1 for reminding me of better shmups.
