Unreal Expectations of Cheap Tablets

Artistwithafro Blog

Unreal engine is great.

Granted there are minimal amounts of resources for mobile but it's not the worse engine in the world. What becomes the real hassle is working with cheap materials and peripherals ie. The Digiland Tablet. I don't really know what I expected from this $40.00 tablet but the fact that it can't even run an aplha of an alpha is frightening. It's gotten to the point that I've had to delete and uninstall all of the other apps on my tablet just to TRY to get a functioning build with minimal lag.

This is not a review this is a warning: DO NOT BUY DIGILAND TABLETS

At least if you're trying to code for mobile games, this applies for Gamesalad and Unreal (and most likely unity as well.)

My rant ends here, looks like I'll have to use my phone and HOPE that the other tablet I purchased will run without any problems.

Thats the stuff you should know.

Back to Work (27 days till Expo)

Artistwithafro Blog

I need to get back to work.

As I post this on Saturday April, 1st It is becoming more and more apparent that I need to get back to working on my craft and producing meaningful -- content overall. I can't even recall the last time I posted here (granted I know that finding out is just a click away.) It feels, however, that my expenses, stress, and overall productivity has fallen more in this month than in the months prior. I find it useless to blame this on March itself as for some reason I've begun to wallow in past-relationships and have a slight tendency to blame this on the change in seasons. It just seems to me that my window of opportunity is becoming ever so smaller as this year progresses and it is extremely important that I make some changes in my life now, else I submit to normality.

This was originally supposed to be about Project B.O.T and the many changes to come with this month being the time that I am going to be showing the game off at Microsoft; and for the record I might not put another "personal" blog entry on this website as to just promote my product and try to show professionalism in my craft.

I'm actually going to end this here and hope that my enthusiasm carries over to create a few more blog posts and articles in the coming weeks.

That's the stuff you should know.

New Year. New Engine.

Artistwithafro Blog

2/21/2017

This year I decided to make my goal of 2017 to release another game on the IOS and Google Play Store. Little did I know this year would also bring about more challenges than any other in my game developer career.

At the start of this month my boss came to me and said that I would be working independently for my specific project, and that all resources that I use from his company would be completely severed. This came as a semi-devastating blow, only because from about November 2016 I had been making the game, and was about 65% finished with it in the mobile game engine Gamesalad. However, now I would have to start from the bottom up to make the game entirely in another engine.

Choosing Unreal:

I decided to go with unreal engine, mainly because I had already been working with it for the company. After scouring the forums of unreal, and a few youtube videos I finally found the tutorials necessary to create the endless runner that I wanted.

Introduction.

Artistwithafro Blog

Hello Humans,

"I am the ArtistWithAfro and this is the stuff you should know."

I'm an artist, animator, and game developer. That aside the job that makes me money is actually lifeguarding but thats besides the point and probably not the reason why you're here. As my first blog I think it'd be in my best interest not to regurgitate the same information that is on my profile and rather open the floor for a conversation by presenting some of the work and pieces that I have.

I think every Wednesday I'll be posting some sort of information as to my week, and what else might be going on with my various projects. Albeit I'll admit I am horrendous with schedules and deadline and have a tendency to procrastinate but since Wednesday is usually the day that I post my video series "Interviews with gamers" I can keep up with the other pieces of information (i say this as the post and my youtube video both go up on Thursday). Still finding the time to at least post on this site once a week will hopefully get me in the creative juices and away from my other distracting addictions.

Well then I think thats as good a place as any to end this first post, again be on the look out for more.

Thank you.
