The Dead is a cinematic, single player FPS set in a paranormal western world. The player character is a sipher, a preternatural being that extends its own life by taking the lives of others. The gameplay is similar to BioShock in that the player will have both weapons and special abilities.

The initial focus of the project will be creating a 30 minute episode that introduces players to the world, the character, and the gameplay. I expect this first episode to take 4-6 months. Depending on how we feel during development, I would like to extend the project to multiple episodes that we would release for a small charge and then package together into a game at the end.

I'm hoping to complete this project with just myself and an artist, but it may be necessary for us to grow the team, especially if we go beyond one episode. In an ideal world, this is something we could eventually make money with, but a great demo is the primary goal.

I am a programmer with professional user interface development experience in the game industry, and I also have experience with two completed mods as a designer. In addition, I have a degree in Creative Writing and English, and I have won awards for both fiction and poetry, as well as written a short screenplay for a produced indie film. I'm using this project to expand my gameplay programming skills and learn the UDK.
