Hello, fellow gamers! 3DViking (aka: EvilViking) here, project leader of An Act of War, and Derelict Studios procrastination Team Captain. I'm afraid that I'm not posting any An Act of War news today, instead, I'm proud to present a beta of my latest work. Many of you are fans of the Real-time-tactics/RTS game World in Conflict, by Massive Entertainment. Several months ago, my first map do_Virginia was approved as the first ranked and officially approved user-made map, and it is currently available on many Massgate servers.

Now, I am three months into working on my next map, which will be my entry for the Massive/Sierra Official Map Making Contest. Presenting, do_Paradise:

A few quick details about the map:

- The map is set on a slightly fictionalized bay on the south-east side of the Hawaiian island of Kauai
- The graphical style for this map is inspired by Crysis/Far Cry
- There will be jungles, mountainous areas, beaches, farms, islands, a small town, and more
- This map will fit loosely into the official WiC storyline
- The map will include a hand-painted ground texture, and fully modeled surround mesh

This map will be a lot of fun with varying command point locations, and tons of beautiful scenery. Your troops will want to stop for pictures, hehe. Once the next beta test is ready, it will be available right here on Derelict Studios, and everyone will have the chance to try it out and submit feedback!

5/23/08 - Beta 0.07!

Last week, I was able to borrow a WACOM tablet, and I spent about 22-25 hours detailing Paradise's ground (splatting) texture. Besides that, I have continued to tweak the map's environment settings, and prop detailing. Topping the list of changes from the previous 0.06 beta is the addition of completely customized surround meshes, molded and textured in Modo 301! So, enough with the talk, on to the screenshots! :D

Here's a look at the surround mesh in Modo 301. Each tile section of the mesh is 1.53km x 1.53km. That square hole in the middle is the actual playable area of the map, which is also 1.53km:

As always, feedback, comments, suggestions, flaming, and hate-mail is appreciated. :P

There will be another public beta, but it most likely won't be for at least a couple of weeks. I'll be working on a checklist of what I plan to do before releasing the next beta, but that list will include:

- Adding in custom palm trees
- Finishing the surround mesh
- Further drop zone and balance tweaking
- CP capture voices
- New load screens

Thanks for reading! :)

BONUS: Action shots! (aaaahh, more screens!)
