That's where me (the original developer) gave up development. The game is continuing development by a new person here: Histacom.fhost.com.au

Is the .net framework 4.5 installed on your computer?

Everything is done in Visual Basic... The websites aren't HTML at all, just visual elements dropped onto a panel. When you visit a webpage that panel is "brought to front" on top of the other "web pages" (panels). So no coding required to make the web pages. For example you know that Internet explorer 4 home webpage with a link to google.com? On the click of the link the following happens:

Googlehome.bringtofront

It's that simple. Still I don't really wanna have anything to do with histacom anymore. I wanna give it away in bulk then boom, its someone's project to keep, work on, publish and upload. I've coded everything simple yet it in a long way (code simple to understand but not written in the shortest way possible). For example to change from one year to another just type:

Windows95-1998.hide
Windows98-1999.show

But of course you wanna have some effects in between to give it the feeling of time traveling...

The start menu is fully functional and you can open programs for the operating system. Check out the first histacom video "part 1" for examples of opening some windows 95 programs. The programs however have limited functionality since I don't have the time to recode windows 95 lol. You can right click the desktop and open properties to change the desktop background colour and even the active title bar colors of each window. You can also type stuff in notepad and select colours in paint but you can't actually paint anything. All of these things can be fully programmed and implemented however if someone has the time to do it...

Just some advice... In the 1999 travel to the virus infected 2002 there is too much talking in the game with little actually game play. When you go back to 2000 to fix the past I tried to add more of a gameplay element. 12padams says he is preparing the time travel software but it won't be done for a while so you need to download and install a game from his website called "survive that day" and finish it before you can continue time traveling. That's the kinda stuff this game needs in it so It doesn't just become a massive book.

Histacom would be perfect if it was developed by a team of people. 6 people could spend a week each working on a windows program to code while another 6 people could work on recoding websites from the past eras and adding them to the game. Histacom actually shows you what websites looked like in past years. So hotmail in the game in 1998 is actually what it looked like back then. I got the looks from waybackmachine.org and rebuilt the websites in the game. Then another person could work on writing the storyline while another could write the games dialog.

Histacom really needs a team of developers, its on indiesb but it really shouldn't be an indie game. If you can find anyone willing to be dedicated to developing histacom I would be happy to hand over the code for free even if they want to sell the game for money.

I never finished developing survive the day... I gotta finish it though ;) 12padams is me and 2 years ago I gave up developing survive the day so I guess that game will end the same way it did 2 years ago. Maybe "ah whatever, you've survived long enough... You can call this a win in my book". Btw choosing to time travel to the year 2000 and pretend the time travel software didn't get messed up by the y2k was a bad idea... 12padams won't fix the bug in time distorter now and lets just say you are in for a wild ride to windows 3.11 in 1993 ;) Time distorter doesn't travel will you, the time travel software wasn't invented until 1998 and the 12padams website wasn't even put up until 1996... You're totally screwed ;)

Let me share with you a secret... I developed this game from version 0.1 (march 2010) to 1.8.5 (July 2010). I then gave up because nobody took notice of my game... I was stupid though because all I did was upload a youtube trailer of the game with a download link in the description. I then gave up development until I got some people telling me they liked histacom. Problem was that I looked back over my own work and I didn't like Histacom myself. I opened up the game today after 2 years of not looking at it and I thought... There's too much talking, little actual gameplay and well... Will people actually like this game?

I will wait for some reviews of this game before I continue to develop it. I want to see if people think its actually good or not. I like my concept but I feel it's too much like reading a book within a graphical user interface. Then again... There's so much more I can add to this infinite game.

You guys don't even know about my plans on the alternate future 2015 mind controlling operating system made by the hidden hacker who gets corrupt with power due to his time travel ability and then taking the battle to the 1980's in dos... Or the 2042 virus that spreads itself to all the worlds computers, becomes a singularity and takes over the minds of humans through its own subliminal messages causing the end of the world where all humans obey their computers... You will be able to stop it but the singularity will easily learn to time travel too and alter the past. This game can go in any direction literally being multiple games in one. It could involve the illegal downloading of torrents which get you viruses or something. Or what about a currupted version of time distorter... What year would it take you to?

Seriously this game has potential but I don't know if I like the gameplay. That's why I posted it here... To see if people liked it so it would have a future.

Warning I have removed the previous version "1.8.5" which was ultra buggy (I was testing parts of the game and forgot to reset it back to 1998 and instead left it in 2002. Download the new fixed version which should be approved very soon.

I have heard that some people are having difficulty running this game, is this true? Is there anyone who has successfully installed this game on their computer?

Btw the good thing about this game is that it is infinitely expandable. I'm planing to add multiple time lines which include stuff where you can go back in time, bankrupt microsoft then go back the the present and realize that windows 7 and stuff doesn't exist and instead linux took over so you are using ubuntu or debian. Would that be awesome?

Ok all you do is extract it to the portal folder merge folders then press portal.exe and it will work. (this works on pirated versions)

Btw great mod a little bit of a crap time travel effect. The whole screen should not go white just what is outside the time machine should go white

Ok i tried it on a pirated copy but sadly it did not work. The problem is you need to use steam to launch this mod.

I am guessing you would extract it into the halflife to folder since the folder names in the hl2 folder and cronoport folder are extremely similar.

I don't know if you merge folders or swap folders though.

I couldn't get this to run on a pirated version but it is defiantly possible.

Portal prelude mod can be hacked to run on a pirated version of portal so this could too. You could try to get portal prelude running on a pirated version and if you do use the same method for this mod and you might be able to run it.

Please don't ask me how to do this since i really have no idea but you could go onto a hacking forum or warez site and ask someone there.

If you have a legit copy of portal installing this mod and many others would be super easy. so if you have not already bought portal yet finished the game itself, let mods be the reason you really buy it.

Just know i may not come back here so i won't be able to reply anymore.

Well if your having trouble and getting confused it is likely you have a pirated version of the game and this will make it very difficuit to install.

Do not expect much help here as not many people know about this mod.

This mod has great potential but it may take a year to complete.

I will try download it now and try make it work on a pirated version and if it does not work i will tell you :)

P.S you might want to ask for help on the official site, "Blackbox.cc" (i have nothing to do with this mod, Infact i just found it 15 minutes ago)
