Bug Report

If you have the Diving Suit bound to something like Mouse 4 or Mouse 5, and you get the diving suit...

Pressing the diving suit button switches you to another weapon (most of the time flare gun, sometimes napalm launcher) and allows you to shoot it even if you have 0 ammo for the gun.

You have to hold the button down, then let go. If you just press it, it switches but doesn't shoot, and trying to shoot makes you switch to something else. But if you time it correctly, you can infinitely shoot the gun with 0 ammo.

Also, getting out of the water is extremely difficult. It's also incredibly easily to softlock and just be completely unable to move.

You lagged because you have a dated computer.

It took a long time to load because of all the high resolution textures.

The game is magnified, probably because you don't have "override high DPI scaling behavior" by application turned on.

As for the files being messed up after uninstalling and re-installing, that is not at all normal and shouldn't happen. Maybe you didn't delete the files correctly.

Amnesia: Five Magics - 7/10

It was pretty good. I liked the story, most level designs were nice, I really really liked the stone golem custom monster... I would have given this an 8/10, however, there are a few issues that prevent me from doing so.

For starters, the Custom Story version doesn't work at all. Straight up. You have the config set up wrong or something, because custom textures/models are completely missing. I was forced to play the Full Conversion one.

Secondly, you knew for a fact that there's a map that shares the same name as one in another full conversion, Destiny Revenant, and yet you made no attempt to change it. You simply told people to just not have it installed when renaming the maps would not have been difficult, I've even done it myself with other mods. I wasn't actually able to find what map shared a name with one in DR, but when I removed DR, a level that was consistently crashing... stopped crashing.

Lastly, there are errors with some of your maps. In the cemetery and forest, there is some sort of object that is loading in files from White Night. They are loading in "car005a_01.mat" and "car005a_01.tga", and they are stretched very widely across the whole map, and block the player from being able to see anything. This is really strange, because, well... A modern car does not belong in this setting. And people need White Night installed because numerous custom stories and full conversions use models and files from it, so it becomes a nuisance when they're loaded in areas they shouldn't. Also, again in the forest map, there appears to be some sort of large wooden wheel barrow, like one you would attach to a horse perhaps, but it has zero textures of any kind. Collision is there, zero textures.

As a personal nitpick... There are too many brightly lit areas, or areas simply not dark enough to require usage of the lantern. The player also gets their lantern removed from them. Twice. For no good reason. And the first time around, you don't even give them an oil canister to refill with. I had a full lantern, *******. Now all of that oil was completely wasted and spilled on the floor when I got back. And finally, the very last thing to note is that several scripts/triggers were not set to happen only once. They may happen repeatedly. I spawned the stone golem directly in front of me and almost died.

Zoofyooo - - 195 comments @ Insanity: Nocturnal Confusion 2 *New Update v2.1

There are some serious issues with map "Chapter2-Prisonblock", the map right after the elevator scene.

It's the coal pieces. Only one of them loads in. And if you Save and Exit, come back, or reload the map, the one and only coal piece de-loads and is gone.

Now, I have a modded Amnesia - I know that. So... I tried Vanilla Amnesia. I played the whole mod from start to that map, and...

Guess what?

Even on Vanilla Amnesia I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Only one coal piece has loaded in. And when you Save/Exit, that one coal piece disappears as well.

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PROGRESS! You made me think my game was broken.

Oh, also... the auto-save is broken. When you load the auto-save after the elevator crashes, every sequence breaks. You can't use items on anything at all, the lever won't go in where it's supposed to, etc...

I wanted to rate this mod, but due to being completely unable to finish it, it seems I will not be rating it.

It's not possible to help unless you were able to identify what the problem is.

I mean, you just said that when the Brute bashes on the door, the game crashes - but that doesn't exactly tell anyone what specifically is going wrong.

Great update to the mod. Performance is way better than usual. I get a significantly more consistent 50 FPS, or 30 FPS. If I'm gonna have bad framerate, I'd at least have it be consistent. Previous update had my FPS constantly at like 20 - 25.

However, I will admit that the mod still has quite a lot of issues.

1. The game crashes randomly upon trying to load a save, and rarely, crashes trying to start a new game - The crash report is blank and won't show anything at all.

2. Dying will occasionally crash the game for seemingly no reason at all

3. The S-Nav Navigator has a completely random chance to drop your FPS down to just 2, and it stays this way until you stop using it (and it persists the next time you use it). This can happen immediately, or it can just pop up later into the game. It is not related to any settings at all. I initially thought it had something to do with v-sync (don't enable it at all, it makes the game way laggier in general).

4. SCP-173 can spawn inside of elevators while the player is still inside of them. This leads to instantaneous death depending on where the player is standing.

5. SCP-173 can spawn behind the player in certain hallways just in general, and in some cases, it's highly consistent, making it genuinely difficult to explore certain new areas. With the crystal death SCP, he spawns right behind you on your way to the door. But then, he can spawn on the other side of the door, meaning you can open it with your back turned and get killed again.

6. The "key that unlocks everything" was moved to a point in the game that makes zero sense. It is in the Entrance Zone, which requires a level 5 keycard - the last keycard the player needs to beat the game, making the entire concept of the item completely pointless to exist in the game in the first place. The key should instead be accessible with a Level 4 Keycard in the Light Containment Zone.

7. The Nine-Tailed Fox units still have incredibly buggy pathing AI, leading to them getting stuck in certain rooms/areas FOREVER and you have to either accept death, load a save, or cheat. This is something that should have been fixed a long time ago. No other NPC in the entire game has these same issues.

8. Alright this is just personal issue moment, but I really think the hazmat suit should have some sort of upgrade that makes it worthwhile to keep instead of just being a blatantly worse gas mask you only wear for like 30 seconds and then immediately take off and never use again.

9. Replacing batteries doesn't restore full power - THEY SHOULD. The fact that they do not, makes it 100% worthless to use any and all battery powered items. No one wants to use them at all when they replace the batteries and see that it's barely been charged at all.

What was wrong with game.cfg?

As far as I'm aware, there's nothing wrong with it.

Anyway, good job with the windows. The only reason I removed their transparency was because they're incompatible with, well, pretty much every custom story.

Good karma+1 vote
Zoofyooo
Zoofyooo - - 195 comments @ Amnesia: The Dark Descent - Remastered

It is possible. However, I have no experience with it whatsoever, so, I don't know where I would begin to start doing that.

Assuming you can find the entity file of the windows, the file would specify what reflective material the window uses.

You could just simply... rename it to a different reflective material you want it to use. It SHOULD just be that simple. Amnesia's files are really that flexible.

Then, it would apply to every window in the game.

1. I still don't understand why this is apparently happening to people, I literally removed the files, I guess I have to check AGAIN for the 4th time

2. I've personally experienced this myself (specifically the machine's textures being completely missing). This seems to be TOTALLY RANDOM. You know what fixed it for me? Copying all of the texture files and pasting them back in. Again. And then it works. And then it breaks again! For nooo reason! And for ME personally, it ONLY happens during a certain full conversion. I don't get it, nothing's wrong! The textures are LITERALLY right there in the files, but it wants me to copy them over and replace them again every time it happens.

3. The transparent window's reflective material is the same exact material that water uses. That means if you remove it, you also remove water reflections as well.

"It's the pebble files you removed, copying the ones from the original mod fixes it"

The square texture that flickers a lot IS from the original mod, that's precisely why I removed it in the first place - so you would keep the original textures from Vanilla Amnesia. And sure enough, the imgur image you shared IS the broken texture in the original Remastered mod that I specifically removed - so I don't understand how "copying those files from the original mod fixes it", if the files from the original mod are literally what's causing the glitch that I deliberately already had removed.

I don't understand how you can have and complain about having broken textures that I straight up removed from the files and triple checked to make sure that I did.

"What are the torch sound files? They don't work with surround sound"

Amnesia doesn't have surround sound support, it's half-done and you have to enable it by editing files outside of the game. So, of course you're going to experience issues using a feature that isn't finished.

Either way...

The original sound file for torch flames in Vanilla Amnesia is (without quotes, of course): "general_fire_burning"

The entity files for torches have been changed to play a sound file called "general_fire_burning_torch", so you will have to make a second copy of general fire burning and rename it to include torch in the name of it. "general fire burning" has already been changed, so you will need the original file from a fresh install.

Yes it will/should.

Necrologue is a full conversion mod, and FCs use the same files as the amnesia directory.

Necrologue has a lot of custom files, though. But stuff like the new shaders and whatnot, should all be present.

New Comment since my old ones are a few pages behind.

To anyone wanting to download this mod, use this file:

Mega.nz

It is a fixed version of the mod.

THERE ARE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. FOLLOW THEM EXACTLY AS THEY SAY.

Note: You do not drag and drop the entire folder in, drag and drop the contents within the folder.

Here is a demonstration video of the mod: Youtube.com - talk to me in the comments of this video if you need help (read other comments, I may have already answered your problem).

-------

Edit:

Fixed the broken Pebbles 01-04 texture.

If there are textures not loading in, such as all of the textures for the machine that you put cogwheels onto...

THIS HAS NO PERMANENT FIX. AT ALL. To "fix" it, copy and paste the files back in all over again and replace them. That should fix it. And then later it will break again for no reason! This is NOT the mod's fault, it's a fault with AMNESIA ITSELF.

The occurrence of this glitch is random - I have personally ONLY seen it happen in a particular full conversion mod I played, never anywhere else, never in Amnesia's main story.

-------

Edit 2

Removed several files related to Hitler and Nixon

Removed several files completely unrelated to the mod and don't have any reason to be there

If anything is broken I apologize

Endless Insomnia - 10/10

This is a personal favorite of mine. A classic 2013 mod that I remember really enjoying back when I first played it, and I still enjoy it even now. I had a blast playing it on my Steam Deck, staying up till 3 AM to finish it. The story is a little lacking to be perfectly honest, seeming more gameplay focused - but it does that well, in my opinion. I also really like the whole concept of it being part of the protagonist's mind. The level design is great, and I love the orange grunt. I loved playing through it all over again, and I got 5 out of 6 secret chemicals (rip). I got that green candle, but I had no idea where to put it. So, I carried it around with me as a little prize and it helped me stay protected, blocking hits from the orange grunt survival boss (yes, I got in with me).

However, I do have one single piece of criticism, just one - The tree secret in the back yard is too difficult to access. Slope boosting genuinely seems to have been nerfed over time, it used to be easy and now I can barely do it. All you do is look down at the ground, and spam the spacebar button. But it just doesn't work anymore. And sometimes, it half-works. I can get up far enough to activate the secret, but I don't land on the tree and therefore I cannot pick up any of the goodies. Perhaps the ladder should be made bigger? It's completely impossible.

I usually don't rate a custom story or full conversion 10/10 unless it does something particularly unique or special to set itself apart from the rest, this would've been a 9/10 otherwise - BUT... it did something that I greatly appreciate. The full conversion. I've had missing entities in my game and no matter how hard I try, I simply cannot fix them. Physically, they're there, but no textures - invisible. I've also had glass textures be an odd bright blue color when they're meant to be clear, fully transparent. I changed my resource file to pull from the Endless Insomnia full conversion, AND IT FIXED ALL OF MY PROBLEMS. I also LOVE the new Terror Meter noise. So... Thank you. A lot.

Glitches - You accidentally made the closet with the crowbar, locked. It cannot be obtained without grabbing it through the crack in between the doors where there is no collision. In that same level, using the drill on the cabinet in the first room causes the noise to repeatedly loop loudly in certain sections of the map.

Note - The player's mementos does not take into consideration whether or not the player already has the lantern from the secret, saying he should find a light source despite already having one.

There is also a third door in the final level opened by the valves, all the way back where the secret 6 chemical area is... I have absolutely not a single clue how I am supposed to get to it in time. It seems completely impossible to reach it and get inside before it closes and blocking the valve from moving doesn't stop the door from sliding down.

I prefer custom stories that tell their stories thru the environment or via dialogue from characters.

Notes in - not just Amnesia, but every game - ruin pacing in my opinion, as I said before. It's unreasonably boring and unenjoyable in my opinion. There's a video out there explaining this entire idea and I agree with basically the whole thing (I would link it but I tried to find it and it won't show up).

In my personal opinion that you are completely in the right to disagree with - I firmly believe that it is bad game design to force players to read notes for anything to make sense in terms of gameplay. Story is one thing, but just finding items and figuring out what to do is something else entirely.

I should be able to figure it out without pausing my game and having to read a wall of text for 10 minutes straight.

Oh, and the laggy hub was my fault and I had since then fixed the issue.

It's not a full conversion mod. It's a mod designed to replace files from the original game, which is why it recommends to make a backup. So, making a bat file to run it as a full conversion wouldn't work.

Making a patch would not work with the fixes my mod brings. You have to re-install it fully. It intentionally removes bad textures/particles and if you have people downloading it as a patch and putting the files in, they're going to keep the files that are supposed to be deleted.

For example, pebbles 01-04 should have the vanilla textures instead of the remastered ones.

I wouldn't want to take the main attention away from Florian's work even if I technically fixed parts of it that were broken, plus I think it's preferable for people to try out Florian's version before thinking of trying mine.

If Florian wants me to, I'd upload it. But I wouldn't do so if he didn't want me to. I don't even know if Florian is aware of this. They seem to be remaining quiet about it, if they do know.

I am running the latest version of Amnesia and I do not have any modifications that would cause this to happen.

I am using a personally modified version of Amnesia Remastered. That's it.

It came to my mind that the entities were too large, causing it to get stuck, but I have fixed that issue and the pigs are refusing to move even in areas where there are no objects for the pigs to get stuck on.

I would also like to point out the fact that the pigs do not get stuck in any other custom story I've played that uses them. They are only bugged out for your mod only.

Question #2: The issue isn't that transparent windows don't work in custom stories. The issue is custom stories are built around opaque windows. Looking thru them will simply show an ugly black void or simply things the player isn't meant to see.

In addition to this, transparent windows also have environmental reflections that I have no idea how to turn off or remove.

Question #3: graphics/inventory

List of Changes:

1. Reduced the amount of pointlights and/or spotlights lamp entities used. Some had too many, while others had confusing and redundant ones. For example, candles having 3 pointlights of nothing but the color blue in addition to its yellow-ish one.

2. Removed all particles from lamp entities - they were barely noticeable and killed framerate.

3. Removed environmental reflections on non-water surfaces

4. Reduced reflection rate on water to vanilla-levels, because water is not that reflective in real life. It's not a mirror, and a lot of the time, you can't even see anything reflecting off of it to begin with.

5. Fixed sound files being incorrectly named, which resulted in torches being dead silent and the brute not playing one of its enabled noises.

6. Replaced the inventory graphics because the original ones weren't rendering properly.

7. Made several entities immobile such as clock_desk and chemical_vial_3, because these entities are used for decoration or occasionally in scripted events.

8. Swapped out new rain particles with the vanilla rain particles - they look barely any different at all, but one kills framerate from a smooth 60 to 10 while the other one lowers FPS from 60 to 55.

9. Fixed a wall. It extended out further than it's supposed to. The creator had to have known of this issue because it's not there in the main story when he recreated the maps, but is present in every custom story.

10. Shrunk furniture entities to their original size - things like desks and tables were enlarged which creates cramped spaces, messes up level design in custom stories, and makes certain areas inaccessible.

11. Removed static_object decal "pebbles 01-04". It was nothing but a flat square texture that looked awful and the textures overlapped each other for a flickering effect.

12. Replaced orb_complete.mat with the vanilla one, because the remastered one made the orb yellow which makes it appear to be a ball of cheese.

13. Replaced static_object decal "paper_pile" with its vanilla one because the remastered one has an opaque background when it's supposed to have a transparent one.

1. Mega.nz

2. The patch I made only contained the new files, not the entire thing, which is why I have no clue at all why it ended up being so large and took so long to download.

3. I am simply calling it "Fixed Amnesia Remastered".

4. Youtu.be

Q: "Are the windows supposed to be opaque?"
A: Yes. I am using the custom story compatibility patch, not only so it obviously works with custom stories, but also because it restores the original intentional look of the game. It wouldn't have costed Frictional anything to make the windows transparent if they wanted them to be.

Note: If they're not opaque when you download the mod, I ****** up the download.

Q: "Torches and candles don't seem to be producing shadows"
A: There are two "lamp" files in entities. One without shadows, and one with shadows. For the purposes of this video, I used the one without shadows because it's my preference.

I made the lights with simple pointlights and no shadows as shown in the video, while the pack with spotlights and shadows is made by Florian. I still changed them to be more FPS efficient, but good oerformance isnt guaranteed with the shadows.

Q: "The glow around the lantern looks a bit weird"
A: That is called a billboard effect, and trust me, it's the same one as vanilla Amnesia. All I've done is change the color of it. Remastered Mod bumps up the FOV from 70 to 74, which reveals just enough of the arm/lantern to make specific things look a little weird.

Q: "Why is your game constantly lagging at the start?"
A: Fresh install of Amnesia is loading in sounds, especially new ones, for the first time.

Q: "Loading times are taking forever!"
A: This is intentional and something you have to deal with. You're loading in very high resolution textures. It's gonna take a while. For my video, the recording pauses during loading screens making it seem like it loaded in quickly.

Q: "My game lags when I pull out the lantern for the first time, every time. Why?"
A: The lantern has a cubemap which makes it shine/reflect light. If you don't like it, I'm pretty sure you can just delete the cubemap.

NOTICE: I do not recommend turning Parallax on. It's not necessarily broken, however according to others, it seems Florian has magnified the effect. For some things it looks perfectly fine. For others, it will slightly stretch and warp textures in unpleasing ways such as particular dungeonbase walls.

No this is not something I can fix, nor do I have any idea where I would start to fix the problem. I also don't want to because I think I shouldn't, it might mess up everything else as a result. Use it at your own risk.

As always... Tell me if there's something wrong, and I apologize beforehand if anything is.

Yes, the windows are supposed to be opaque. I am using the custom story compatibility patch, and if the windows were not opaque, in custom stories they would just end up showing a black void or things you aren't supposed to see.

As for your Parallax Occlusion problem

Thanks for bringing the issue to my attention. I have attempted to fix the issue in the latest version available to download. If the problem persists, use Amnesia's debug mode and turn on Inspection and tell me which "base" is improperly working. For example, "mansionbase" or "cellarbase", "castlebase". Inspection mode will tell you which one.

In your documents, you should find "Main Remaster". Place the new cfg file in there as well.
