This group is for everyone who like tanks, sci-fi tanks, real tanks, funny tanks, you can put here tank mods, tank maps, simply everything with straps, armor and gun :D
And guys I've been digging for more info about the Z-3 lately and been sharing those pic I thought are good. Hence the recent all-Zulfiqar posts. Apologies to everyone who are feeling bored. :)
Seems like the Iranian tankers really like machine guns, is the one on the front supposed to be something similar to a spotting rifle or just a large co-axial machine gun?
The Z-1 lacked a co-axial machine gun. But I don't think the Z-3 lacks one too (There is no confirmation). Although that is likely a Add-on for extra firepower when the need arise. The M-1 also has this feature: Upload.wikimedia.org
Of course, these differences (space between the road wheels, size and shape of turret, length of gun barrel, etc.) are gonna be hard to see on the fluid battlefields of the 21th century...
Then again, on many RTS games, the Abrams is the De facto tank of humanity (C&C, Shadez 2, Universe at War, etc.). Still funny to see this trend in real life though...
Well Abrams is a good tank (Definitely not the "God of tanks" as many claims but it is good) and there was a time when it was the the baddest cat around so it does makes sense.
Although in RL I think the T-72BM/T-90MS would be the De-Facto MBT of humanity. They are pretty the T-34's of modern time. While the Leo2A7 will probably be the heavy/breakthrough tanks.
Not quite. The average person thinks of a chasis with an upside down bowl with a stick in the middle of it put on a top, and T-55 turret is more bowl shaped.
so u finally got free of the bush thingy :P
by the way z-3 has other variants rather the original one like with different cannon or anti explosive armor etc...
oh and nice pic :)
It's actually quite a good tactic, during night battles or very long range ones it could be hard to identify whose tank it is. It also may have been designed back in the day when Iran was friends with America ( hence all the us equipment still used ).
The Zulfiqar program started long after the revolution (Roughly two decades) and it is a fusion of the M-60 Patton and T-72 tank. The similarity may be unintentional as the Super M-60 too looks similar to Abrams.

Iranians are fans of Ork philosophy.
I think that applies to everybody.
That MG there is positioned like the M2 CROWS on an M1A2 TUSK i think.

Note I said "on many RTS games" since most RTS games are made in America.
And don't forget the T-55 (and its spinoffs), that is THE tank of the third world.
When most people think tank, most will probably imagine something that resembles T-55 in shape.
No, I think you are refering to the M-48...
(you know, the tank from all those army men plastic toys...)

Why did they copied an american tank if they hate them?
Aside form visuals, the Abrams and the Z-3 are radically different.
Because the weaker always copy the stronger since the dawn of history...
