Hey everyone,

Here's a quick overview of how I think game key sharing should be approached here.

If you have an extra Desura key from an IGS purchase, and you're looking to get rid of it, feel free to make a post in this forum.

There are two boards that you can use:

  1. Looking to Trade
  2. Free Key Giveaways

These should be pretty self-explanatory, but I'll explain them anyway, just in case.

  • 'Looking to Trade' is for those of you who want something in return for your Desura key. Whatever that may be is up to you (but please, no NSFW imagery).
  • If you have an extra key and you're willing to just give it away, you should make a post in 'Free Key Giveaways'.

Guidelines for Posting

1. Sending Your Key to a User
As these are public forums, I'd suggest that Desura keys should be transferred through private messages from user to user. Otherwise there's no way to gurantee that the user who responded to your forum post will get it before someone else finds and activates it. This isn't a rule, but please be aware of the risks (and of your reputation for reliability).

However, if you don't actually care who gets your key, feel free to post it in a public thread in the Giveaways board.

2. Recipients
Please reply to the giver's forum post once you've recieved and activated their key[s], so that they know it's been claimed. This is so that keys can be given to someone else later if a user recieves one but never activates it.

3. Claimed Keys
Please don't delete your thread once your keys have been claimed; it's preferable to edit the title of the thread to contain [Claimed]. This way people can still see what our members are like to deal with and what sort of things have been offered up in the past. Claimed threads can be locked so that no new replies can be added.

4. Good posting Practices

  • Always try to provide as much information as you can about what you're offering. Give as clear a picture of what the recipient can expect as possible. For example, if you think your Desura key might have already been claimed (by a friend or something), please clarify that in your post so that the recipient doesn't feel cheated if it doesn't work.
  • Also, please make an effort to clearly title your thread with the titles of the game[s] you're offering. Generic names like 'Desura Keys for Trade' aren't really helpful.

General Rules (Please don't ignore this stuff)

1. Requests/Begging
Please don't make a post requesting a key for a game. You should only post here if you have a game key you're looking to trade or give away. However, if someone is willing to trade with you, and asks what you would like in return (in your thread or via PM), it's okay to discuss with them.

2. Don't Be a Dick

  • Rude forum posts and replies are unnecessary. Flaming, insults, etc, are not okay, and you'll probably get blocked if you keep it up.
  • If you're going to make a public giveaway thread, don't exclude some people for no reason. As much as possible, try to make sure you're able to keep up your end of the post as well; you should define the terms of your giveaway in your initial post (i.e. 'only for people who don't own the game already').

Please let me know if you have any input or suggestions, I'm just one person!
