Plan is to finish this then do a low poly and then texture.
Gorgeous photoreal model. It'll be a shame to lose all the detail in the low-poly.
He'll need quite a large normal mpa to preserve the detail. Not suitable for a game but for a 3D render/movie it's doable.
Even with a normal map he'll have a hell of a time with the undercarriage. Projections are, at best, finicky beasts.
Very true its an insane challenge. Many of the parts are duplicated or mirrored so I've built the low poly as a modular setup so I can be most efficient with texture/uv space and will have the ability to assemble in the engine (udk) using instanced models to be efficient with polygons. :)
