Still quite a bad render perhaps try to aim for something like Moddb.com it will show the model better.

i think he used blender but im sure you can do an ambient occlusion render.

Blender is capable to make ambient occlusion render. Just the interface is not the same.

In the Render Tab just check Ambient Occlusion.

If using Blender..
Go to world tab, check Ambient occlusion, leave it to "add" and delete any lamps to avoid "blown out" white spots.. :)
