Are you a 3D artist? Are you looking for some inspiration? Do you just want to collaborate or know who your fellow ModDB artists are? Doesn't matter what application you use or how you do it... if you're a modeller, animator, skinner or looking at getting started with 3D, then this is the group for you!
Another SnowTeam related creation.
How is it a crawler when it has wheels? :o
Probably because he modeled first, then he think it.
lol, that's not nice.
Anyway, why couldn't it be a crawler when it has wheels?
A Crawler is a machine that has a mode of locomotion by tracks or by transferring the machine's body on limbs or appendages. These do not drag parts of their body on the ground.
Therefor something with wheels can't be a crawler.
Where does it say that? These tracks pull it forward like a lot of small little legs. I'd say that qualifies as crawling.
Nope, this is a tracked based quadricycle.
Ok fine!!! I called it MiniCrawler because it's a mini vehicle in a "Crawler" series of vehicles: SnowCrawler, MiniCrawler and Field Crawler. Who btw aren't really crawlers either... I suppose it all started with the SnowCrawler and "SnowSpeeder" was already taken (damn you George Lucas).
The real question is: What is this for? I mean, it closely resembles a mobile all-terrain gym device, but... I doubt that was his intention. :P
Hmn... Let me explain, it's like a small skateboard only you lie down on it like a surfboard.
Where's the engine? Where's the suspension? Where's all the magical and wondrous things that make it work?
I'm not having a go, personally I think it's an interesting design, but not a lot of thought has gone into making it look like it works. In fact, the only way I could see this working is if you rolled it down a hill, and judging by it's design, that wouldn't be too comfortable. :/
Hmn... It's electrical, so it has a battery, that is located under the main body.
In the "arms" there is a hydraulic suspension system that makes the "arms" and "legs" move. As for the propulsion, each pod for the tracks has an individual engine.
lol, I can assure you that people have squeezed more into smaller packages than this one ;)
Have a look at this (not really related to this but it's still cool): Youtube.com
Don't worry about commenting on my work, it's what make modeling all worth while :) well... sort of anyway.
PS. About the bumps, yeah, you're probably right.
I think crawler is appropriate. To crawl can be defined as moving slowly. While driving a car or truck you can slow to a crawl. The Star Wars Jawas used Sandcrawlers which used a tracked form of locomotion that slowly crawled across the terrain. Even off-rode enthusiast enjoy Rock Crawling in their off rode wheeled vehicles. I think to nit-pick about the name is just looking for an excuse to complain when the model is pretty cool and well made.
