Indie of the Year Awards
Voting has started!

It's time once again – the 2022 Indie of the Year awards have commenced! These player-voted awards are the original and best way for gamers to make it known how much they appreciate the creative works of independent developers.

Indies Persevere

2022 marked a momentous year for DBolical - the 20th anniversary of IndieDB's sister site, ModDB. Over the last two decades, tens of thousands of mods have been released onto ModDB and some of the heaviest hitters have become industry legends, sealed within the history of ModDB itself. Many of those modders then went on to create successful indie games that have had their own time in the spotlight during Indie of the Year - cementing the relationship integral to DBolical between modders and indie developers.

Now, though, we draw the focus to those brave developers, some working entirely solo, some with only a handful of friends to share the load, who are creating the next set of remarkable indie breakout hits - you, the creators on IndieDB! So gear up and get ready to battle it out to decide the winners of IndieDB's 13th annual awards!

Phase 1: Nominations Begin

Over the next 10 days, a voting booth will appear on every indie game's profile page. Simply visit the profile for the game you wish to vote for, and hit the “vote now” button to submit your preference.

Phase 2: The Top 100

Nominations will close on December 10, and will then be tallied to determine the Top 100 games of the year. This list will be revealed on December 11, and then, voting on games in this Top 100 will begin for another 10 days, to determine the 2022 Indie of the Year!

Phase 3: Indie of the Year 2022 Revealed

Come Christmas, the final awards will be rolled out over a series of days. The announcements will be presented as follows:

  • Editors Choice Awards (22nd December)
  • Players Choice: Unreleased Indie Game (27th December)
  • Players Choice: Indie of the Year 2022 (28th December)
