History

Calamity Bay Games is composed of husband-and-wife team Mike Caputo and Elle Kelsheimer. Our creations are reflection of our passions of history, sociology, mythology, system design, and the simple love of gaming.

We were inspired to make a game exploring life after loss after we were personally struck by life-altering tragedy that caused us to re-chart everything we had planned. The farm RPG genre is a perfect vehicle for this story, as day-to-day tasks are mixed in with over-arching storylines and character explorations, and the pacing is a little more reflective of real life.

Mike is a senior software engineer who is handling the bulk of the coding. Elle is a certified UX researcher and designer and is in charge of the art and design while also assisting Mike with coding.

  • "This sounds intense and like a breath of fresh air for the 2D farm sim genre, especially if you can get the depth of characterization in it that other games are missing. Keep it up!"

  • "Mixing together elements of a visual novel, with farming, foraging, crafting and more - the developer Calamity Bay Games explains that it's "historically-grounded" which makes me quite curious about it. However, it's also mixing in some mystery and magic too so it's all kinds of things."
    - Liam Dawe, www.gamingonlinux.com
  • "The game is set in Eastern Oregon in the 1860s and stars siblings Áine and Shane Callahan. They originally planned to reach the Willamette Valley with their father, but the journey ended prematurely. The siblings now seek to survive and build up their homestead while keeping Áine’s magical abilities secret."
