Let's talk about, any features you would like to see in this game?

But first, Here are the list of features i have planned so far.. (not all listed here, some are meant to be hidden for a now)

  • Interaction with pokemon - as you have seen in the Quick Look video.. but there is still alot you haven't seen yet.. ;)
  • Day night feature
  • Map System
  • Mini map with clock
  • Vehicles - Bike, Boat etc.
  • Fishing Rod
  • Fully Controlled Battle System - You will have full control over pokemon in battle (So, its not turn based battle)
  • Gamepad/Controller support
  • Pokemon leveling system is little different, pokemon will have same exp system though (Full details are meant to hidden for now)
  • Swim and Dive underwater

i'll keep updating the list if need be...

Don't think much. spill out any feature you would like to see in this game i'm a person who loves to have freedom in gameplay i'll add anything which is possible to add.. :)

How about a search system for the bag and the pokemon-box? With this you dont have to scroll trough your whole bag/box to get the pokemon/item you want and maybe it could be nice to add a feeding system for the pokemon and some secrets, for example if a pokemon has the ability "Frisk" and you walk with him trough the world it can find something which is buried and you'll need a pokemon with "Dig" to get the buried stuff.

SubtheZero Haha, you are on the right track buddy... exactly what i have planned for.. :D (About feeding system and abilities.. )

And about the bag.. you are right there should be a search system.. Although i'll have to find a way to make it work for controller as well since you cant type with controller. and i dont want to use that same old annoying "going over button and press it to write" system. But i love solving problems.. i'll find an effective way!!

Hi !

Here a list of little things to improve in Pokémon which you could use in the game:

  • About the attacks: more attacks for each Pokemon, maybe 6 or 8 instead of only four. It is, I think, tactically more interesting. But then for each attack, you reduce the number of PP, or even better, each Pokemon has a global PP bar, which needs to regenerate after each attack used. Each attack consumes more or less energy to the pokemon.
  • About the attacks, what would be interesting is to make something like a “tree of competences”. Let’s take an example : Bulbasaur can learn Slam only if he has learn Vine Whip before. So the choise of which attack a pokemon learns influence the attacks he can learn later, which makes more possibilities. It’s more interesting.
  • Following that, Pokemon could get a third type, but with the choice you make, one or two will be more important than the third one.
  • I think the idea of seasons in Black/White games was interesting. You could make appear Pokémon only when it rains or snows. No fix weather could be good too, it could always change.
  • The pokemon we encounter are more level-mixed. No more routes with only 5-6 level pokémons. That’s not “realistic”. Pokemon with higher level though could appear progressively, but everywhere.
  • Pokemons are not hidden in the grass anymore, they can be seen, the can walk everywhere. More rare pokemons are better hidden.
  • One thing that could be good and that is completely missing in the games is the Trainer experience. Like what we have for pokemons but for the trainer. By levelling up, the trainer can use new stuffs to go further in the adventure. Some examples bellow…
  • Only one Pokéball, but it becomes more efficient with the trainer’s experience. You could also use objects to make it more efficient for some type of pokemons. It would be more clear, I think.
  • HMs are not attached to pokemons but to the trainer, who can use them outside battles with experience. So you don’t have a “HM’s Pokemon” in your team, which you never use outside that. So, for fly, for example, all bird pokemons can use it once you have got the HM and if your trainer has get enough experience.
  • Pokécenter are really the center of each town, there is also the shop, there, you can take some rest, you can meet people. It could be a place where you can find some side quests.
  • Non-player characters are more clever, they move more than what we have now, we could even develop some relations with NPC. But most of all, the main character speaks and say something.
  • The first Pokémon could be something more simple, like a Rattata or a Pidgey. Or at least, it could be interesting to have other starters than the usual water/fire/grass trio.
  • All Pokémons are available :D

I hope everything is understandable, it was not always easy to express my ideas in English :D

Douroucouli Well, I have noted all the points but here are few which i can talk about quickly..

Attack system is not a turn based so yeah i can confirm there will be more than 4 attacks! Tree of competence is definitely a great ideas, i'll add it. I didn't understand the third point though. Yup there will be pokemons depending on the environment and weather. And there are chances you may encounter a 32 level dodrio in your first mission. its a 3d pokemon game so yeah onix wont pop out of a 2 feet grass... :P Trainer exp is something i haven't thought of, i'll consider it. HM concept will be completely new, something you haven't seen before. side missions will also have a somewhat new approach to it. NPC will be smart and active. what would be the fun without voicing the main character. even pokemon will speak. no comments about starter pokemons for now i'll like to show it directly in some upcoming video.

I liked the similarities we all pokemon fans have.. we all want almost same kind of improved pokemon game! and i think we deserve it!

Jun 1 2015 Anchor

Thank you for your answer :)

For the third point, an exemple :

Charizard (outside Mega-evolutions, I mean), is currently fire and fly. It could get a third type : dragon (of course). But well, with sensibilities, it's a bit difficult three types. So what would be interesting with the "tree of competences" is that you can boost one or two types (attack & sensibilities of those type too, then), depending on which attacks you've chosen while training your pokemon.

But well, in fact, it works with two types too... But some pokemons could get a third type, I think. Did you understand this time? x) It's a bit difficult to explain :/

Yeah, I agree! It's why so much people are enthusiastic with your game ;)

Douroucouli Alright i get it.. also i liked it! i'll do that ;)

Hey, I have a few ideas for the game so i just thought id post them here. I would love for people to say what they think about them ! :)

  • Mountable Pokemon. I think that the interaction between is a great! So what if the fairly large ones; like Tauros, Venusaur and Onix, you could ride. Even ride on the pokemon that can fly like Charizard, Lugia and other pokemon. And of course you would have surfing on pokemon like in the games.
  • Possible multiplayer through story. I would love travelling through the pokemon world with 2 or 3 of my friends. Catching pokemon together, training against each other, arguing about who saw a pokemon first and who gets to catch it. (Also if it was up to 3 players they could have one starter each). The players would be each others companions and rivals. I think experiencing your game with my friends would be amazing!
  • Open world. Although i bet your story will be amazing, i think the player should be able to explore the world how they want, though you would of course need certain HM's to get to various places.
  • Gyms don't need to be completed in a certain order. In the anime, manga and games gymleaders say they have different teams for trainers with different levels of battle-experience. For example: If i want to challange the fire-gym first the leader would have a smaller and weaker team (Like a Darumaka, Ponyta and a Charmeleon), if i choose to do it 4th i would have a tougher team against me (Like Darumaka, Rapidash, Magmar and Charizard) and if i choose to do it last i would get his best team (Maybe a Camerupt, Darmanitan, Rapidash, Magmortar and a Charizard (possible mega). The freedom of choice would be interesting, cause if i choose the fire-starter, i wouldn't necessarily want to start with the rock-gym.
  • To use certain moves outside of battle. You would have the usual field moves, like flash and dig (i also think digging a big hole and covering it up with branches to make a trap for wild pokemon would be a perfect way to use dig outside of battle), but other moves should also have different uses. Like burning obstacles with firemoves or using vinewhip on a ledge so the trainer could climb it. I know it sounds dumb, since it would ruin a couple of HMs like Rockclimb but i think you should consider it anyway.
  • Different uses for moves during battle. Moves could have different uses during battle, like string shot, for example. In the games it only slows pokemon down, but when you actually get to aim where you shoot the string you could do things like putting up tripwires, use it as a grapplehook in a roof or on a treebranch or maybe even use it to pull a rock down from a ledge. Other moves like dig could be used to dig under a fence to escape, use the leaping up as an attack, or use it to make a pit-trap where the pokemon would fall.

These ideas are just the ones i could come up with from the top of my head, i hope you find them interesting and take them under consideration! I cant wait to play an actual demo of the game! :D

I noticed on your new website you wanted some ideas for NPC, gym leaders, and town/city names among other things. Here are some ideas for ya! (Note: most of these like Jewel, Lily, Keegan, Belle, Kali, and Pike actually have to do with types, and some of the towns have to do with their typing as well)

1st Gym: Rock (of course) - Leader: Jewel (female) - Town/City: Tonalite Town

2nd Gym: Poison - Leader: Lily (female) - Town/City: Boxwood City

3rd Gym: Water - Leader: Anotonio (male) - Town/City: Port Laguna

4th Gym: Fire - Leader: Keegan (male) - Town/City: Montgomery Town

5th Gym: Steel - Leader: Ferrel (male) - Town/City: HighTop City

6th Gym: Fairy - Leader: Belle (female) - Town/City: Knights Village

7th Gym: Dark - Leader: Kali (female) - Town/City: Annabuzz Town

8th Gym: Fighting - Leader: Pike (male) - Town/City: Quarantine Town

Rival: Male: Brady - Female: Robyn

Professor: Professor Pine

Hope you like them!

Jun 3 2015 Anchor

RunFerret Sorry i dont have time to reply to all of your points in details but, Yeah! you can mount pokemon and fly or swim.. i think a co-op mode will be there with lan support.. i'll think about gym orders as you suggested it may cause some other problems but i think i have just figured a way to achieve that! anyway I'll keep other points in consideration for future work! i loved them all! thanks! ;)

CoreRaptor You are really good at naming.. i liked all the names, although prof. pine was already in my head. but i would be needing more prof. names! so if you come up with more name write them down here in this new thread i just created! Suggest cool names! Thanks :)

Maybe some easter eggs based on the anime, like a really small chance of jigglypuff lulling you to sleep and proceeds to draw on your face.

Or maybe the mew hoax from pokemon red and blue.

Jun 3 2015 Anchor

I've also got a couple of ideas:
1. A rival. A rival that will come up here and there and challenge you to a battle. I believe, you can make him scale off of the player.
2. Moves affecting the environment (Fire burns grass, melts ice. Water puts off fires, etc. obviously everything will return to normal in a little bit of time).
3. Fast travel. Air currents, water gazers, teleporters (abra), bikes, etc to travel faster throughout the world.
4. Small pokemon being able to sit on your shoulder. Something simple but pretty attracting to players.
5. Could we have random battlefields in leagues? As in the anime, rock, water, fire, grass battlefields which variate every match.
Q: Will there be EV training? I'd prefer not to have EVs in a single player game, however that is only my opinion and it is your choice.

  • As RunFerret said, being able to use moves outside of battle, in a way that is meaningful, would be great. Not only could some moves have an effect on the environment, but it would allow the player to practise their fighting skills in a safe way. It could also be used to train pokemon in some way (e.g. use an attack move 100x = attack up + 1). You could even use a pokemon gym as an actual gym!
  • If your combat is in realtime, you need a realtime limiter. Move-based PP may be worth keeping, so that players couldnt just spam the best attack, but i would recommend using a 'replenishing stamina' style stat for moves, where each move can be limited in realtime (move stamina cost vs pokemon's current stamina).
  • Pokemon Food. Bait, berries, fruit, drinks - there are plenty of edibles in the pokemon games, and i think they would work even better in this. For fighting, pokemon could hold something edible to use in battle. For fishing, different bait could allow you to catch different pokemon. For side-quests, you could have a restaurant, bar, hotel, etc where people and pokemon are eating, drinking, talking, resting.
  • This is just my opinion, but if i were you, i wouldnt bother with the diving / underwater mechanics. Swimming on the surface might be ok for shallow water, but you dont want the player being able to swim to distant islands without earning the ability to do so in some way. Designing diving/underwater mechanics effectively doubles the amount of design work required, and for this game, im not sure if itd be worth it. I would much rather have a few well designed areas where underwater scenes can be written (submarine, pokemon assist, sinking ship, etc) than be able to dive and swim wherever i wanted. Im not sure how extensive you imagined these mechanics would be, but if theyre at all complicated i would suggest scrapping them. We would be happy with a boat / riding a pokemon.
  • You gotta be able to ride pokemon. I know itd be a lot of work, but i think its a necessary mechanic, purely because youre making the game of our dreams, and we dream about riding an Onyx through a cave, cruising on the back of a Lapras, and leaving a trail of fire as we gallop through a safari park on a Rapidash... Seriously though, i dont think the mechanics would be too difficult. Personally id be happy with a possibly-janky mechanic (e.g. for any pokemon larger than a human, attach a 'spring' joint to a preset position on the pokemon, then attach the trainer to the spring) rather than no mechanic at all.

I wish you the best of luck! This is a tough game to make in many ways, but everyone wants you to succeed!

One thing that I think will win over a lot of people is a revamp of the Pokemon League. It should be modeled after the anime, where 100+ trainers who receive all 8 gym badges get to battle against each other, in a bracket tournament, with the final winner getting to fight the Elite 4. This would work well in a single player game (as opposed to multiplayer you would have make sure everyone obtains 8 badges within a certain time period in order to compete in it). It's way more fun and causes more strategical thinking, and there could be different battle grounds too - water, grass, lava, rocks, etc.

Jun 25 2015 Anchor

Hello, I dont know where to post this so I am posting here.I want to help but cant as I specialise in scripting and more of a unity 3d guy.If you have not finished modelling the pokemon perhaps you can benefit from following site.I was using it to create my own game but now have stopped development. It gives you almost all models of pokemon including megaevolutions as long as you dont plan to sell the game.

the site is: Roestudios.co.uk

Awesome work, so far. All the features I've seen so far are perfect, but I was wondering if you had plans for terrain Pokemon restrictions: Only Pokemon that can swim could battle on water, etc.

Also: these two concepts have always seemed awesome, to me: Pokeballs & Pokemon Center. I think they fit quite well with the PokeDex design.

Okay, so here I list you some ideas I have for the game. Most of them have been tested personally on a RPG game with good results.

1. Make a short test before beginning the game in order to have different "personalities" that have different abilities. In oder words, having trainers with abilities (such as making the pokemons resist more, for example).

2. Having a phone to access to the PC (pokeballs have to been connected to it).

3. Add more pokeballs (an example is a starball, that make it easier to catch shinnies).

4. Add crafting recepies for pokeballs (with the bongouris from the anime); you can also add a cultivation system (for the bongouris)

I think that's all...

Hey Veer! I'd just like to say thanks for taking on this project and wish you good luck on it! I hope it becomes a success!

Here are some ideas I have for the game:

Search
I saw that you were thinking about how to implement a search system, so I was thinking maybe you could do something like what Google does. In Google, as you type, you're shown options of things people have searched before. But for the game, maybe as you type, you're shown the items you already have so it can be a simple matter of pressing down and choosing. It doesn't exactly solve the problem of "typing" using a controller, but it helps somewhat, even on a keyboard.

Sort
For the items in the bag, you could also sort items according to the most used or the most recently used. It could be an option, like an option of "Sort Alphabetically", "Sort by Most Used" and "Sort by Most Recently Used".

Frisk
I would love to see how Frisk is implemented and if the pokemon would do a thing to get your attention? Like point and hop maybe? That would be so cute! XD

Stats
Also, someone above said something about player stats. Aside from the player having stats like agility (faster running), endurance (longer running if applicable), strength (farther pokeball throwing) and accuracy (which may perhaps be through an auto-aim or a percentage of fixing the distance from where you aimed to where your target is), the pokemon themselves could also have stats like agility, endurance and strength. (This may make the concept of levels and leveling up unnecessary.)

Pokemon stats could also be skill-specific, since a pokemon can't have mastered a skill immediately. An unpracticed attack might miss completely for example. As a skill is practiced, its accuracy, strength and speed increases. Of course, this means you'll have to train your pokemon a bit with their skills to make sure they're effective in a battle.

Targetting
In conjunction with the accuracy mentioned above, I also wanted to suggest targetting. Basically it's to focus the current character (pokemon or person) on a specific opponent. This helps the player keep track of where the opponent is if it's within site, and helps with the aim of the current character.

I also wanted to suggest maybe being able to target people aside from pokemon. When you want to stop/catch a bad guy, you can slow him down with string shot or vine whip. Similarly, the bad guys could also make their pokemon target the player's person character to force the pokemon to defend their trainers. (This may be too much though so maybe this could just be cut scenes in the story.)

AI
In the video, I saw that the human and the pokemon both follow whoever is leading, I thought that maybe this kind of AI could help as well during battles. While you're playing as the pokemon for example, the human could warn you of incoming attacks that he could see. ("Pikachu, look out!")

---

TL;DR
- Search: Show list of items starting with the typed letters while typing
- Sort: Sort bag alphabetically, by most used or by most recently used
- Frisk: Cute "I found something!" animations? :3
- Stats: Stats for players, stats for pokemon and stats for pokemon attacks/skills
- Targetting: Camera focus on visible enemy, (whether pokemon or human?)
- AI: Human can warn pokemon of attacks he can see

I hope some of these ideas were useful to you and maybe inspire some new features! :D

Just some ideas.... I always liked the aspect of moves interacting with each other whether it be ice turning into steam from fire or an explosion caused by 2 powerful moves colliding.. Also moves interacting with the area so fire burning the grass,, ice beam on the floor making it ice

I know you said you are not doing multiplayer for now but would you think about maybe making the league a competition for lots of different players so maybe after we all have done our travels we can compete against one another in a final tournament.. Also co-op is something id really like just to have a few friends maybe like 5 max doesn't have to be too big who can join me on my journey it all sounds real good.

I don't want to repeat things that have been suggested but I see your adding a dodging mechanic which I think is really good,, I think maybe for bigger slower pokemon maybe they could have a block mechanic like the way charizard blocks magmars fire blast in that episodes

Sep 7 2015 Anchor

i had a big idea for if you are gonna put in the gamel that we can choose what we want to say you can put some emotional option like in the movies when ash do charizard away or when he wanted to do pickachu away it would be nice to feel whit your character

Sep 8 2015 Anchor

Hey do u have any idea about what are u going to do with the One-hit KO hits? cause i thought of something like they will be in a delay and mabey from a realy close range if u are goingt to do them at all (cause it sounds kinda overpowered to have a move that instantly kill someone withought a missing chance like in the games)

now i have some questions for the gameplay

1) can u do combos in the game like one person doing a duo battle and the pokemons will work together in a some sort of gameplay,i know that u have full control of the pokemon but lets say that u can switch from each other whenever u want and mabey do some fancy things like lets say im batteling with pikachu and charizard and pikachu will be able to climb on charizard and then use thunderbolt mid air or something like that it sounds too difficult so i dont realy imagine it happens but as u said i just giving some ideas

2)what about a moves that will make interactions with other moves like mabey throwing an ice ball and then make it faster with a water gun or do a flame wheel following by a flamethrower in it could be neat

3)well thats a question: if u see a wild pokemong just like that in the nature will it attack u or instantly chalenge u to battle or mabey u need to start the battle how it works?

4)will there be a trading system? (if u will put a co op system as well)

well thats mostly all i had in my mind right now, btw do u have any idea when will the first release come out and what will be in that release?

Sep 10 2015 Anchor

Hey Veer!

i have just 2 suggestions...

1. Multiplayer Mode - An awesome multiplayer system with a chatbox and an official game server with all the features available and a monthly tournament where everyone with 8 badges can participate and will have to face trainers around the Globe!

2.Mega evolution - i have heard that you're thinking about pokemon fusion evolution but mega evolution will be far more better. In order to mega evolve a pokemon , you need a mega stone and a key stone that will be obtained from certain places and you will need a good bond with your pokemon to do so just like the anime

that's all :)

Hello :)

I have been following this project for just recently, but I have an idea which may fix your bag searching(for pokedex i don't have one :/ ) problem you have or just give a good idea :P

My idea is don't have a searching option for inside the bag. You could just make the bag open and a new window would pop up showing all the items you have in your inventory/bag on a blanket( like in the forest). Ofcourse you would have to limit the weight you can carry( would be redicolus if you could carry 100 pokeballs, 30 potions, 40 barries, some fossils and an egg in just 1 bagpack :P). This would solve the problem with searching for items with a game-pad and it would be more immersive aswell :).

Hope you understand and would like if people could give me some of their tought on the idea :)

Nov 18 2015 Anchor

Hey, I'm new to the team, but I have some ideas..

1. Combo System: This would be really awesome. In the anime they did it with Ice Aqua-jet. In game, we could use compatible moves (i.e moves of same or similar type/effect (Water+Ice or Extreme Speed+Double Team)) and they would deal massive damage. On the flip side, they would use up a lot of stamina (if you are doing this) and you would need to recharge.

2. Real time events (such as tournaments) : This way, people will be motivated to finish the gyms and train their Pokemon. It will no longer be grind till next Elite Four tournament, but more spaced out tournaments (once a month) so everyone will have a chance to shine.

3. Weather affects battles: It is good that you are doing weather specific Pokemon appearances, but I think you should take it further. Have weather affect battle so if it is a super rainy day, fire type moves will be less effective, but electric and water moves will get a boost. This will make the game, and even tournaments more interesting.

4. Up the Level Curve: Lets face it, Pokemon games were easy. By making the level curve higher (I don't mean by a lot, just like 5 levels), it will make the game more challenging and fun.

5. Give the NPC's Personalities: I'm not saying to give each and every npc an attitude just the main ones(Gym leaders, Rival, Prof, Elite 4, Champ, etc)

6. Make NPC's More Important: Instead of just giving you instructions and free stuff, I think Npc's should have a greater role during your adventure. Gym leaders can quit, you can "Recruit" Npc's to go on a journey with you (Like Brock or Dawn)

7. Make Pokemon More Important: In the anime, Ash's Pokemon were actually his friends, not just slaves like in the games. I think you should be able to develop a bond with them, and they should have different personalities. Some will trust you, but others will take time and bonding.

8. Prominent Evil Team: The Evil Team should affect you personally, like they stole your Pokemon, or kidnapped someone you care about. This way, you will develop a closer relationship with your character

Thanks for reading, and I hope this game is a success, also, I have some (not very good) concept art, but I don't know where to send it.

Gosh, I wrote a lot, I will bold the things that seem most important to me.
