The Kepler Experiment is an upcoming survival-horror first-person shooter, drawing inspiration from games like Half-Life, Amnesia and System Shock 2.

Story

Adrift in space, with life support in your shuttle failing, you are rescued, just in time, by the XSS Kepler – a research vessel that went mysteriously missing many years ago. But celebration will have to come later, for you soon find yourself fighting off the horrifying creatures that now call the ship home and scavenging for supplies to stay alive.

Featuring

  • Survival-horror gameplay – make every bullet count and use your limited resources wisely to fight off enemies and stay alive.

  • Environmental puzzle solving – collect items in your inventory and use them to solve adventure-game-style environmental puzzles to make progress.

  • Audio logs and notes – immerse yourself in the story, and discover the horrors that befell the crew, by collecting the logs scattered throughout the ship.

  • Fully-realised locations – explore the XSS Kepler´s decks at your leisure. Take in its spacious lobbies, squeeze through its cramped corridors, raid the abandoned cabins for ammo, liquor and batteries.

  • Original soundtrack – to complement the moody levels, The Kepler Experiment features an original, dark, atmospheric soundtrack.

The Kepler Experiment takes place in the same universe as Dissolution, Lunar Descent and The Apocalypse. While there are story tie-ins with these game, The Kepler Experiment is fully independent and can be played on its own.

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably played one of my Dissolution-universe mods already, and some of you will have played a few. This is a short post to let you know about what will be the fourth entry to the quasi-series – The Kepler Experiment.

The Kepler Experiment, as Lunar Descent and The Apocalypse of Eden did before it, will expand on the world built in Dissolution, allowing you to explore another Xterrier-owned location, this time the research vessel XSS Kepler.

The Kepler Experiment is going to be a free, fully stand-alone game, built using the Godot Engine, but with many of the mechanics present in my previous titles. Like them, it will focus on environment design, story telling and adventure (collect items to survive and progress) gameplay.

It is thematically and stylistically similar to The Apocalypse of Eden, but unlike Apocalypse it will be a survival-horror, with some light, but deadly, action, rather than the avoid-the-enemy horror Apocalypse utilised. As with previous titles, there will be audio logs and readable notes, to allow those interested to dig deep into the game’s backstory.

If you’re interested, you can follow the game on ModDB / IndieDB, where I will keep you posted with progress.
