Last Tuesday we put together our Greenlight page, and so far the feedback has been okay but not great, partly it seems because our game has no murder, no guns (fireballs count?) and doesn't involve sci-fi or fantasy elements. Don't get me wrong, I like all of those too, but sometimes it can just be a bit much and I want to escape to a land where death and dismemberment aren't possibilities. Hopefully there are other people out there that feel the same way!
Our game is heavily inspired by Super Offroad and Mario Kart so we hope that those types of games break standard demos and appeals to everyone and hits some level of nostalgia for older gamers, but maybe not?! Maybe by targeting these games as inspiration it comes off as "copying a classic?"
If you like what we are doing, let us know what caught your eye, and if there is something that isn't exciting you, is it just that this type of game isn't your thing, or are we messing with classics? After spending time on a project with your head in code you lose site of some of the simple things so hit us up and let us know what you think would make this game great, or what is making it flat line!
