Description

Skate & Date is a roller derby rhythm ga(y)me where you play as Maggie, the lead jammer of the Rockin Rollergirls! She has a bit of a crush on Patricia – one of the opponents on the rival team. Your objective: to impress her with your sick roller derby skills!

History

Skate & Date started as a game for Yuri Jam( a game jam for games about girls liking girls) and evolved to how it is now after working on it for more months. At first I wasn't even going to pursue this game idea for yuri jam since I had a plan for a villain dating sim, but I thought of how much I loved rhythm games and about how I should challenge myself during this game jam.

Furthermore there's just not a lot of queer games out there that are a part of different genres. I love visual novels and dating sim, but I want to start trying new things so I can learn how to make my own cool mechanics etc.

As anyone could see from the prototype made, my main focus was on the programming for those two months causing everything else to be pretty unfinished. When I actually released the prototype I was unhappy with it so I continued working on it. From a combination of the feedback I got from the prototype and the help I had from my game design teachers I was able to nail look and feel for the current demo.

This is the first game that I'll be working on for more than a year and I'm excited to bring it further to life as time goes on.
