Another week has passed and although I'm a bit ill and busy with work I'll give you the recent news and updates for this project.
New team member
We've gained a new project member this week. Technetium will be in charge of designing the background stories and lore for our world and characters. So far I had a really nice conversation with him, providing me with feedback on the project and my ideas. I hope you'll come up with inspiring stories soon but so far: Welcome to the team!
General Decisions
We've made some decisions regarding the background story, races and classes featured in the game. For the first release we'll keep everything at a minimal approach. So there will be Humans, Elves and Dark Elves available for the player. Orcs are going to be introduced in a later release while Dwarves will only enrich the environment as NPC's. We think it might be interesting to play with people's expectations for these races a bit so we don't have the standard barbaric Orc warrior-type and pure Elf mage-type but rather something really interesting and new to explore.
Furthermore the first release is going to feature 2-3 classes for each race. Our main goal while designing these classes is to make each class individual regarding gameplay and the player's experience while playing.
Background Story
Regarding the background story, Technetium is about to establish the basic history of the world and races. I guess we can expect a few inspirational stories and ideas within the next weeks and I'm really looking forward to reading them.
Character Animations
My book from the Blender store arrived and I'm already half way done with reading it. I still need to figure out a proper way to import these animations into Unity. So far I've a basic walk- and runcycle for my female character. The character still needs a bit of work on its textures, especially the hair is giving me a lot of trouble.
Upcoming
Our main goal right now is to develop a new small prototype to show our basic ideas for the game. This prototype will feature a small dungeon with interaction possibilities and will be released on indieDB.
Recruiting
We've a few open positions available for interested developers. If you need further information about the project and your responsibilities take a look at the concept-documents available in the downloads section or join our IRC channel #survive at irc.freenode.net.
Right now we're especially looking for:
- Programmers (Unity game engine)
- Concept Artists
That's all for this week. If you've any questions feel free to ask them. Furthermore any feedback is always appreciated.
Have a nice day
