Refunktion is a first-person stealth platformer with exploration and speedrun elements. This is a very challenging game dedicated to the hardcore players and was released for free.
There is only one reason for me giving this a 7. It is insanely difficult.
The game is beautiful, it's the right combination of Mirror's Edge and Portal and the gameplay is pretty great too, although I am not sure what the story is. Sadly I never got passed the second scene, because the droids are impossible to outrun. It's very hard to stay undetected for a long time and eventually, if you want to get something, you have to reveal yourself. That always results in droids spotting you and that's not the problem. The problem is, there is no way to disable or distract them and since there is no run-button, running away doesn't do much good either (why is the word "speedrun" even in the description?). I tried this game quite a few times, but it always resulted the same way.
If this difficulty is fixed I'll definitely try this game again, but until then...
Just make the AI less smart or remove a few droids or make running available or add an ability to distract them.
Apart from this, the game is great, I didn't encounter any bugs or errors, but then again, I didn't get very far.
Good textures and minimal size.
Minimalism type-feel easy to gamers when it provides difficult challenge.
Post Processing effects are great.
Very compatible and flowingly.
Control Scheme is simplistic yet some parts aren't self exploratory.
Broken Update, resetting controls is non-functional.
Standing up after crouch is non-functional.
Rendering settings could be better (Some objects appear when actor is not looking in 80-100% FOV but not in 0-79%).
Low poly button models.
Bloom threshold not controlled properly.
Woah. This is one of the coolest games ever. Difficult but addictive. I've had a lot of fun playing this.
The first level is too easy and too small, while the second is too big and too hard. In fact, I never got pass the second level. The droids are difficult to outrun, it's quite impossible as a matter of fact. Their lazer seems too always touch you once fired, even if you're not touching them. Crouching, jumping or simply trying to get out of the way... it won't do any good. Not mentioning the fact that there is no speedrun at all.
Overall, I fully like the concept, which pretty much makes me remember of the first portal game.
