DX11 could not switch resolution Thread - Puzzledorf

One user contacted me about this issue, I will re-post the important parts here in case anyone else has it.

The Error

On trying to boot the game, it crashed giving the following errpr:

Switching to resolution 1920x1080 failed, trying lower one
Switching to resolution 1920x1080 failed, trying lower one 
All resolution switches have failed 
Screen: DX11 could not switch resolution (1920x1080 fs=1 hz=0)

Possible Causes

• The user had recently upgraded from Window 7 to Windows 10.
• The user also downloaded a "Free Driver Updater" which he suspected caused some of the issues

Some games still worked fine (notably an old Football Manager game off Steam).

Solution

The final solution was action required by the player. It was:

• Identify the users graphics card
• Download correct and updated graphics card drivers
• Download Microsoft Direct X updater tools from the official Microsoft website
• Update Direct X with the official tools

After that the game worked no problem.
