Materials are very important,and while some prefer to start modeling first before starting the material creation process, i always start by creating some materials and a blockout of the map using ProBuilder, a level design and modeling plugin for Unity.
This workflow is super fast and productive because it gives you the possibility to switch between many art direction choices without having to leave Unity. ProBuilder is an awesome tool that helps us to get the game up to date with our level design AND the 3D models of the game !
As a 3D Artist and a Level Designer,ProBuilder+Material sets are my best workflow choices when laying off Project Silva game Levels.
