Project Gorgon is a 3D fantasy MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game) that features an immersive experience that allows the player to forge their own path through exploration and discovery. We won't be guiding you through a world on rails, and as a result there are many hidden secrets awaiting discovery. Project Gorgon also features an ambitious skill based leveling system that bucks the current trend of pre-determined classes, thus allowing the player to combine skills in order to create a truly unique playing experience.

Hi guys, we're hoping the modDb/indieDb community has some MMO fans who're interested in our new game. We've worked on AAA games in the past (Asheron's Call series, EverQuest 2, others) but making these MMOs got us depressed: nobody is afraid to try new stuff... and if they do, they don't just improve on the past, the throw everything out and try to make a whole new genre.

We love MMOs and we think the core ideas are a great way to have fun with friends. They just need to be improved from their 1990s-era roots. We've focused on game systems that:

  • Increase exploration possibilities: we want you to be rewarded for exploring how the world works. Not just grinding to level cap.
  • Create emergent gameplay: one of the things early MMOs were working toward, which suddenly disappeared from the genre relatively recently, is a focus on an interesting world with lots of internal rules. These rules may not all be super amazing or important, but they combine together to create interesting unique problems. Emergent gameplay, in other words.
  • Create a community atmosphere: we're a PvE game that focuses entirely on creating a friendly, involved, dynamic community. If you've played WoW recently you may have noticed that pick-up groups are terrible, nasty experiences. That's not just because you happened to group with assholes: it's because the game isn't doing nearly enough to create a friendly environment. That doesn't mean it's hippie-town with all peace and love, necessarily, but there are lots of ways an MMO can foster respect and a friendly attitude.

We've got a playable pre-alpha version (currently under renovation, but our first group of players seemed to like it!) and we're currently holding a Kickstarter to try to get funds for art: we've invested a sizeable personal fortune in the game, but we still need $50k for better art. If you can help us reach that goal (and get a beta slot in the process), we'd be much obliged!
