Pokémon3D is a recreation of the old Pokémon games Gold/Silver by Nintendo/GameFreak (but, of course this game has nothing to do with them ;) You're the hero of the game, and as usual, you want to be the best Pokémon trainer of all time. So let's go, visit some grass and catch, battle and defeat wild Pokémon, explore towns and routes in 3D, collect items and Pokémon, play with a friend in LAN co-op and much more. The game is currently under development and features are added frequently.

I saw the voting thread for the the trainer perks and I didn't want to hijack that thread, but I did want to post something I thought of.

One thing that I always felt that the Pokemon series games were missing was that there was no player growth. In the game, all of the gym leaders were considered some of the best at what they do, but they got away with specializing with one typing of pokemon. My suggestion is to add specialization bonuses to be chosen after a certain point in the game(preferably after most types become available). Basically, this would be mostly little boosts to stats, and I mean really small boosts. Here's a basic example that probably needs some balancing, but mostly to get the point across.

-Every 10 trainer levels a special moves trainer gets more moves of your chosen type that they can teach your pokemon
-Specialization Training - Every 15 trainer levels, pokemon of your chosen type get a 1% increase in damage given of the chosen type(totaling in +7% to stab moves by trainer level 100)
-Cross Training - Every 15 trainer levels, pokemon of your chosen type get a 1% decrease in damage taken of the chosen type's weaknesses(totaling in -7% to special effective damage by trainer level 100)
-Teaching Efficiency - Every 7 trainer levels, pokemon of your chosen type get a 1% bonus to xp received from battle with trainers and other PCs(totaling in a 14% bonus)
-Breeding Efficiency - Every 10 trainer levels, eggs of pokemon of your chosen type gets a 1% increase to be found and a 1% reduction in steps taken to hatch(totaling in a 10% bonus)

Bonuses would apply to any pokemon in battle that you've caught or hatched(and not traded). The trainer would only get his/her xp as a percentage of pokemon that are their type's xps. Keeping the bonuses small could make them handy, but not too out of control. A level 100 water trainer's pokemon doing a STAB move on a level 100 fire type trainer's pokemon would do the normal bonuses +7% -7%, evening things out to basically a normal match.

Just a thought, anyways.

All feedback and ideas are welcome! This entirely depends on whether the community prefers to see this "type specialization" depend on the perk system or as a seperate system...

On a personal note, I do not understand the idea behind the specialization training/cross training skills. Does that mean I get a free 7% boost to my attacks if I use a STAB attack (let's say fire) to defeat a pokemon that doesn't have a weakness to fire? Slightly flawed there.

Ya know I think personally this is an amazing idea, I was one of those people who would rather specialize in a pokemon type then trying to have a balanced party.

Any changes to the pokemon through "trainer level" would ruin the PVP part of the game when its implemented. one of the things that makes pokemon pvp fun is that you can actualy get good at it and learn about all the pokemon and use that against the opponent, and if someone can just level up the damage or resistance and go away from the metagame we all love i would simply say that it would repel some of the more hardcore gamers.
