Pokémon3D is a recreation of the old Pokémon games Gold/Silver by Nintendo/GameFreak (but, of course this game has nothing to do with them ;) You're the hero of the game, and as usual, you want to be the best Pokémon trainer of all time. So let's go, visit some grass and catch, battle and defeat wild Pokémon, explore towns and routes in 3D, collect items and Pokémon, play with a friend in LAN co-op and much more. The game is currently under development and features are added frequently.

Check the other thread; and if that doesn't help, then the main page should.

To play the game, you must run the launcher. The launcher is Pokemon3D.exe, and it will launch the game for you once it has determined that you have a downloaded version of the game. The game files will need to be in a folder, called "Pokemon" with the capitalization. the launcher must be in the same place as the folder, for example:

The launcher is located at: C:\Pokemon3D
Since the launcher is in the Pokemon3D folder, then the Pokemon folder must be as well. It will look something like this:

C:\Pokemon3D\Pokemon
C:\PokemoneD\Pokemon3D.exe

read all the threads there doesnt seem to be a fix for my problem and i see a lot of ppl have the same problem. im running the game from its launcher . (sry if this thread is in the wrong section). also when i try to install Microsoft .NET Framework 4 it tells me :
1. Microsoft .NET Framework 4 is already a part of this operating system. You do not need to install the .NET Framework 4 redistributable.
2. Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 has already been installed on this computer.

might that be the problem?

Pokmon3D.exe should be in a folder next to the pokemon folder, not inside it. (Keep Pokmon3D.exe out of the game files folder)

So I debugged the C# in visual studio when it throws and exception on launch. Turns out it's something really simple, it's looking for the /Pokemon/ folder and in my case, causing the exception, a missing ID.dat file. It looks like the installer isn't creating the folders locally. So I did the job for the launcher and created the /Pokemon/ folder so now it downloads fine and there are no errors but now it just doesn't start the game, the start button is unusable.

EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED

1. Make sure the launcher is from his blog! I downloaded from indiedb which must be an outdated version that does not work.
2. Make a folder /Pokemon/ in the same dir as the launcher, sometimes it fails to create one.
3. Make sure compat mode is windows 7 (just in case)
4. Run as admin (just in case)

This solved my problem.

This game is missing basic error handling and relative paths. Why are exceptions not caught?

Do you get any errors? What is the user feedback describing the failure? I see you're running windows 8. I'm afraid I only have 7 so my solution may be for this OS specifically. I know nothing about windows 8 - despite being a .NET post grad, yikes!

no, no errors nothing happens when i press start on the launcher :(

I had that problem after I half botched fixed it by manually creating the /Pokemon/ folder in the launcher dir.

What are the contents your /Pokemon/ folder? It should be populated with these files:

same files as yours

I think I might have the same problem. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, a rather new install too. Whenever I try to launch the game it thinks for a second and then nothing happens. So far I've tried:

  • Installing in a different directory
  • Installing Microsoft .net Framwork 4
  • Running in XP compatibility mode

Right now I'm downloading some updates for .net Framwork.
