The fight for survival is on! OverDose is a class, team & objective based multiplayer game set on a post-apocalyptic Earth. With gameplay in the tradition of classic games such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Enemy Territory, melded with up to date gameplay mechanics and movement, OverDose is a unique blend of online action, team play and of course, lots of gore. Using id tech 2 as a base, OverDose features updated engine features like full real time lighting and shadow mapping, physically based rendering, particle and physics simulations and more. Plus, in classic id Software tradition, our engine and game are fully moddable and scriptable, meaning even amateur mod makers can bring their own creations to life with ease. This isn't war... It's an all out apocalypse!
A small promo I put together to help the indie funding cause and to give a tiny bit more insight into the project. You can find out more information at:
looking good! :)
i still remember when team blur games decided to stop evolving quake 2 and moved on to this project - the hate messages and troll attacks where huge these days in the forums but i kinda thought you guys knew what to do. dunno how many years from now this actually was, but i still know how impressed i was by looking at the new water effects, shaders, hd resolutions and texture work you guys had back in the days already. now - even without lots of candy animations the actual result you guys showing of is phenomenal, especially while realizing you started with q2. the artwork, maps, colours, effects and atmosphere is really outstanding. :)
i love how you'll incorporate parkour features and think about basics too - can't wait to see body animations, camera movement and effects while dodging and sliding through the field of fire! looking forward to see more from you!
btw. found it kinda odd hat you didn't mention "brink", "rage" or "fallout" as references because there are clearly some influence going on imho... just wolfenstein and mirror's edge?! sure thing ;)
Without sounding too much of an arse... The more we distance ourself from Brink, in gameplay at least (not visuals, those were stunning), the better.
was no offence, dude! i never ever played "brink" once, watched some concept art pieces (loved the artistic style), some map presentations, some renderings and thats about it (i think i saw the best parts then) - just thought that these guys at least attempted to realize similar ideas and... without sounding too much of an arse, i think the listed influences where obviously gappy - that's all and about it. :)
Well with Brink, they sadly stream lined the game way too much. It wasn't ET like it should have been, it was more like TF2, but without any of the fun. The game chugged, on even amazing systems, and even when it wasn't chugging it felt way too heavy. It was just dull to play, sadly.
It sucks because the art was just amazing, and they had a good go at things. But when you throw everything at a game, you need to make sure "everything" is polished. Sadly, it was a game with a million and one things, none of which were polished enough to work or be fun... Don't even get me started on balance.
alright now i get it... wolfenstein and mirror's edge aren't just influences but paragons in the way they nailed what they wanted to be: gamemechanics, visuals, sounds and overall feeling... (still love mirrors edge)
anyways, just wanted to say that i wish you guys a good and fast evolving progress and that you achieve your goals. :)
And on a personal note, the weapons felt completely useless. The sound design was alright, but when someone got shot they didn't even flinch and the only impact effect was some lameass red puff of smoke. Come the hell on, I'd have preferred no blood at all if they could punch it up with an impactful spark effect and still get the T rating they wanted.
Sad but true
Looking forward to this game! :D
Is there a release date yet? :)
I was thinking that this was running on D3 engine (ID Tech4?). But well after this video I can only scream: MORE,MORE!
Is it just me, or is this video still processing?
Finally got to see it now, looks good.
This was amazing!
Is this game going to be free? Please say it is!
Sorry if you already addressed this question in the video, but just how optimized is this game? I know most projects I've seen to update the graphical quality of old stuff (i.e. Morrowind graphics mods) are fairly unoptimized and tend to slow down even on my fairly powerful computer, so will we need a Godlike rig to max this out?
We've spoken a lot about this. OverDose has a lot of high quality settings and effects, all of which are can be changed in quality or turned off (if it doesn't give too much of an advantage). That goes for everything, from texture effects to particles to even shaders.
Wooot quake 2 engine xD
