We switched to toon shading this week. Our awesome tech artist made us a beautiful shader. Its a hack, but our protagonist even looks as though she's lit by the baked lighting. That's roughly 1000 lights per scene!
Toon shading is just for the characters, btw. I didn't like at first, but its growing on me.
