Combining the best minds on the spectrum, countless hours of coding and testing, and even some redstone circuitry, Minecraft now includes a block with a sideways texture.
And it is awesome.
That would certainly add something level of realism to the game all right; I also think if they can figure out how to put mushrooms on the sides of those dead logs that would sweeten an already great idea.
I'm certainly going to wrack up quite a sum of downvotes, but I find this far less than exciting. In fact, I find it pitiful such a simple feature took well over a year while getting buried under trivialities like "omg potions" and "OMG, ENDER LUL". They need to get their priorities straight, less nonsense fan service for the youngest demographics.
I am inclined to agree. Mod support is vital, and should have been done. but, they've simply wanted to get the game expanded with larger updates. this, and the upside-down slabs are them going back, and trying to fill in the blanks
I'm mostly saying, the purpose of a beta stage is specifically -for- things like this. People have been asking for it since early alpha, the blanks ideally should have been filled before a formal release.
I dislike the rigid thought of "how things are supposed to be done" as a rule, I think it stifles the end result and industry expansion as a whole, but this is one of the few times I'd be inclined to bring up the opposite under a negative light. There are many pitfalls with doing things in a haphazard way. People start to get sloppy.
Sideways logs appearing in the forest is great; is it possible to also place them when building say- a log cabin? Like maybe holding alt while putting a log onto the build?
YES!
YES!

finally!
its time to make sideway tree's
timber!
Woot! Now it's time to build a Nordic settlement deep within a snow biome!
You should make it so trees fall down once in a while, and put sideways logs on the ground as if one had fallen over.

I hope they make tree branches appear sideways facing out from the tree, that's always bothered me.
Hey your wish came true!
And now the FU Trees[the large Oak trees] will now look decent with this upgrade to the logs.

I can't believe what a huge deal such a seemingly small update is. Deservedly so, because now we can all build giant trees that look right!
