Yeah, it's just an opinion. The base looks pretty good, but I really don't like the head. Let's hope it will get better in the end, like with wolves..
I think there will be used iron ingots as in the picture you can see white cross on that wooden thing.

Have you tried Optimine? It has sometimes increased FPS with between 20-30 FPS.

That'd be great if the piston could shove water/lava so that I could create spouts of lava or something.

i assume the recipe will be something like this:

I = iron ingot
C = cobblestone
R = redstone
so pretty much same as the mod, just diff materials

I really want these in-game, I personally think they'll get me interested in minecraft again, at least multiplayer that is. A drawbridge and other things will just be awesome. The piston mod is sweet, but it's only for sp, maybe those people that notch is giving out the sauce (yes, sauce) code to will integrate an unmodified version of the pistons into the multiplayer game. We'll see.

you can craft few versions of it:
wooden piston
stone piston
iron piston
golden piston
diamond piston
They could be even combinated (It's 60-70% sure to NOT be added )
Wooden-stone piston
1st variant: wooden base, stone pusher
2nd variant: stone base, wooden pusher
Wooden-ire piston
1st Variant: - - -, iron pusher
2nd Variant: iron base, - - -
& other combinations.
