Description
You will assume command of a ground-mounted cannon and repel invaders from space as they descend on our planet in hordes. Does that situation sound familiar, soldier? Well it's not. Not like this.
History
Invasion is a personal indulgence. As a child I used to play too many games. Sometimes I'd have these very vivid, almost semi-lucid dreams where I would be inside a game. Invasion is an attempt to re-live one of them.
I imagined the descending invaders as ships, not organic monsters, with landing lights and greebling that just happens to depict the familiar silhouettes we all remember. The gun you control would obviously be a remotely operated drone-mounted cannon, capable of whizzing around on magnetic rails across the field it was tasked to defend.
You can't simply put everything into 3D and expect it to work. I wanted to carry over all the unique elements - the rectilinear way the aliens evade, being able to fire through the shield blocks, having to time your shots carefully to get those pesky UFOs - while building a game that's enjoyable to modern sensibilities. The result is fast-paced, simple fun.
