Those are god rays(sun shafts), we are using the same technique as Crysis for this.

I don't know how that technique works but right now it looks to me like a light visiblity render of the sun with a large zoom-blur ( render multiple times increasing radially each time ). How's it done?

quote from IA "The implementation is rather easy: project the light source ( sun ) into screen-space, and perform a radial blur while accumulating and fading out samples. I improved the initial ideas a bit with all sorts of optimizations, and clipping the light source to the screen boundaries, fading with the camera-to-light angle, etc.."

Magic. Some skill too but mostly magic.

(buried)

doesn't look that great. The trees look like from a game made in 2001. God rays are overdone- doesn't look like that in real life.

bugmenot321 - I know what you mean, but this is quite an early image, illustrating capability rather than final quality.

Its a shame to post only negative comments about something which probably took a lot of work and thought to get to this stage.

Those trees are placeholders btw, Infinity is going to have procedurally generated trees

We'll need to have a falcon northwest to play this game :P.

the difference between it and crysis, though, is that infinity will actually have an interesting game in addition to the graphical effects
