Helios is an open world Action RPG, with a action based combat system. Therefore the player is forced to aim in order to hit a monster rather then bashing buttons. But fighting is not the only thing that you can do, growing your own vegetables is an ease. Those vegetables can then be cooked into a tasty stew and consumed for more health. Also you have the ability to gather you're own ore's and craft these into the most amaizing weapons there are. Monsters won't drop any weapons, armor or gold. Instead they will drop more plausible items like fur, bones, teeth, etc. These can then be used for crafting your items.

Heey there,

Helios is coming along great and its time to create the combat and skill system, because this is a real community game we would like to know what you like the most.
Basically we would like to know how the skills would be unlocked and at what point the player would gain these.

Current design / functionality.

Please reply with the #NR you prefer the most or a custom comment.

Option 1:
A skill tree that allows you to learn only a small part of the skills from top to bottom.

Option 2:
Skills require a previous skill to be learned. For example to learn the skill "Heaven's touch" you have to have "Touch of heaven" at level 5.

Option 3:
All skills are purchasable with a "skill currency" and there are no restrictions by level or what so ever.

Option 4:
Skills level independently and gain "skill xp" the more you use them and eventually level up.
Also you will unlock skills based on your level.

Option 5:
Got any other idea's or adjustments to the above statements please do tell.

I personally think that a combination of 4 and 2 would be excellent. For example, you really want to unlock Heaven's Touch. In order to do so, you must play with the prerequisite skills enough for them to gain skill xp, and once they level up, you can unlock new skills to train. A prerequisite for another skill may be Heaven's Touch lvl 4.

i definitely like the combination of 4 and 2 as well. from my experience, this structure has always given me the drive i needed to "farm" for hours looking for that one drop, while gaining xp and training your skills.
i think its a good way to balance the player to certain areas where the mobs strength is equal to that area of the game... if your too strong, the rabbits wont give much xp near the castle gates, but the rabid bunnies in a cave would be high enough, a good midpoint to level up and farm, and as you progress deeper in the cave stronger mobs would wipe you out quick... so you either farm/xp longer.... or get a team together and fight the stronger mobs.
hope this makes sense.

Option 2 and 4 for sure is my vote =)

cheers!

Skill trees with synergies, a combo of 1 and 2 ?

example, when you learn lightening bolt, you unlock "Lightening Shield" and "Chain Lightening" . . . and it goes on like this until at the end of each tree you get to combine it with some other tree, example you combine lightening tree with water tree and create an uber skill called "tempest" which is clouds with constant lightening hitting the foes?

now the synergies work like this: the more skill you put in "Chain Lightening" the more powerful each strike gets, and the more you put on a certain water skill the more the cloud stays . . .
