Description
Mankind's digital paradise has become a cyber-Hell! Armed with your grappling-hook arm, engage in arena-style combat in service to the Overlord - your A.I. God-King. This innovative multiplayer game built around a grappling/swinging movement mechanic will test your twitch-shooter skills like never before. It's Unreal Tournament meets Bionic Commando. Soar through the map looking for the ideal weapon pickup before ambushing your victim from on high. Make spectacular escapes, swing past obstacles and find new angles to re-engage your enemy. Delight the Overlord as you kill each other for all eternity!
History
We have prototyped a few unreleased games since shipping Dino D-Day way back in 2011. Over the past year Grappledrome started to gel for us as we iterated it's core movement and shooting mechanics. While it nostalgically recalls older FPS' as well as the old Bionic Commando on the NES we really loved how fresh it felt as a multiplayer arena shooter. There are a lot of familiar ideas in Grappledrome but we felt like their unique synergy in Grappledrome was distinct and fun.
Visually, we loved referencing old Soviet-style Brutalist architecture to create the oppresive, digital world of the Grappledrome. The spaces themselves needed to be simple and obstacle free to facilitate extremely fast swinging movement while also recalling a kind of digital sci-fi dystopia.
After releasing Dino D-Day we kept telling ourselves we were more interested in experimenting with singleplayer games for a while. That's what we did for a couple of years in between content updates to Dino D-Day. But Grappledrome took on a life of it's own as we worked on it...it demanded to be made!
