Gentrieve 2 is a "Metroid"-style 3D action game featuring completely random & customizable worlds. The year is 3080. Mass Generators are creating everything, everywhere. However, thieves often steal Mass Generators in hopes of creating robot armies & fortresses. Thieves are terrible programmers, though, and their creations become uncontrollably hostile & fortresses wildly convoluted. It is your job to clear out these fortresses & return the faulty Mass Generators. Be warned, when the Mass Generator is taken offline, the fortress will soon implode!

....is there some trick I'm missing to dodge these? The homing ability combined with my own perpetually slow movement seems to mean that, so far, EVERY time an enemy fires a missile and there isnt something in the way, it's GOING to hit me. Even if it misses, the blast radius is large.

I bring it up mostly because I seem to be completely stuck in my current game; a boss room containing twin bosses, and ZERO cover; probably the most empty room in the game yet. The bosses are huge, faster than I am, and they fire missiles (or, one of them does anyway, the other one mostly just fires those rail shots in random directions).... doesnt seem to matter what I do, every single one hits, unless I'm REALLY far away and leap over them. But the horrid things rarely let me get that far away, so.... yeah. Not sure what, if anything, I can do here. All I've got as weapons and such goes is normal/super missiles, bombs, doublejump, and the ice shot. Strafing never seems to work against missiles regardless of the situation.

Any tips would be most appreciated :)

I think I am going to make boss rooms generally bigger, so you can put more space between you and the boss.. should make dodging easier. Also, I'll try and make sure there is *some* cover in every boss room... although it might not help in your already-generated world :|

Missiles lead the target, you have to change directions shortly before they hit you.

Aye, considering the huge size of the bosses, larger rooms might be a good idea. Since those guys take up such an enormous amount of space, particularly when it's one of those twin types.

The only problem (as I see it) is that while some cover seems necessary to avoid certain types of attacks, well, either the bosses tend to get a bit stuck on the geometry, or it can also lead to really exploitable situations, where the player can both hide AND fire at the boss at the same time, but based on the exact position, the boss cant fight back. I wanted to take a screenshot as a direct example of this but Windows doesnt seem to want to.... might be because of playing in full-screen, maybe.

Yeah, I've tried that, the problem is their huge blast radius. These particular bosses seem to always fire from a point that's pretty high up, so even if I'm far away, the missiles will impact the ground a very short distance behind me if they do miss, doing damage anyway.

EDIT:

In case it helps, quick screenshot of the boss room:

The funky pillar in the middle is pretty much the only thing in the room there (and useless as cover). The boss in the back is the one that fires the missiles; the other uses rail shots. Which, as it turns out, presents another problem; even if I'm having some luck with the missiles, the other guy just pelts me with the rail shots; and I have to completely focus on the missile launcher dude to have a chance at dodging the missiles at all. And of course if one of them gets too close, their horrible spiky doom just drains my health.

I'll probably just start up a new world for now.

Something I would really like to see is a chance to actually dodge incoming fire. At the moment they move fast so at anything other than long range its very hard to dodge and as you say the missile explosion radius is huge and even if you dodge it then it hits the ground and you still get hit. The collision radius on your character seems very large too as I have dodged plasma shot things, seen them fly off the left/right of the screen behind me but then still hit me.

I've just been playing H65b1ePpmn . I killed the first couple of bosses and got myself a red short ranged gun (seems pretty useless in a fight but it opens doors) and double jump. Now though I'm stuck. There is a door I can go through but there seems to be environmental effect that kills me (pretty fast) over time. So I go through the other door and fine the most insane boss ever. Its right on top of me with all sorts of flashing stuff and missiles. I don't even have time to get under cover, I die before I run 20 seconds.

Found no extra weapons beyond that pretty useless red one, no health upgrades.... and also no save points beyond the one by the starting room so I have to run through the same 6 rooms each time I want to try the boss that then kills me in 20 seconds after it took several minutes to get there...
