Freebooter is a sandbox game set in a fantasy pirate world. Players will be able to explore, pirate, trade and ingratiate themselves with the factions of the game. The game relies heavily on procedural generation to create varied and interesting content.
Our old islands took a lot of effort to make and we were not very happy with the overall shape and especially the height variation we could make back then. Therefore we've spent some time developing tools to partially generate islands and speed up island creation. The island seen here is the first to be made with this new set of tools and features cliffs and more underwater detail than we were previously able to achieve.
Looking like a great start, will Island sizes vary? Looking forward to seeing more.
We want to get as much variation in the islands as possible. We want players to explore the world, so if we can make islands that are varied and interesting, that helps make the world feel varied as well as acting as a pay-off for exploration.
