Emoticon is a 3D sidescrolling platforming game in which the player has 3 abilities. These 3 emotion abilities replace the standard punch, kick and destroy mechanics with something new and fresh. Joy is used to platform and jump, Anger is used to as the primary combat maneuver and Sad is the ability a player will use to reveal new areas and wash away the world. A unique twist is each one of these attack/abilities has an impact on the environment in real time, the world changes as they go further into one emotional state.

This week in Emoticon development

Week 2 has been dedicated to building out our Factory level and ensuring multiple paths for the
player and ensuring that we challenge them in whatever emotional state they are
in. This level is heavy on animation and is inspired greatly by the Geonosis droid factory scene from Attack of the Clones,minus the clunky dialogue.

Another focus area for this week has been our audio. We have got some mazing music and SFX
people on our team and they have contributed some amazing assets. We worked hard on tying in the music to the emotional states to ensure player immersion is kept and I must say it works and
is very cool to hear when you’re actually playing the game.
