The DROD series began over a decade ago and has enthralled thousands of players. The third DROD game, The City Beneath, was made by and for this community. Admittedly, The City Beneath is a very hard game, but it's also a tremendously rewarding experience. We did not make this game for just anyone; we made it for the great puzzle-solvers in the world--the joyful scrutinizers, the illuminated elite! Our approach is to create novel types of puzzles and showcase their facets in the context of an interesting story. You begin as a rather ugly man named "Beethro" who travels deep beneath the ground. There are other people down there too, citizens of a mysterious "Rooted Empire", that are carving tunnels and building things. Beethro just wants to know why, but it's hard to get a good answer. He was always fond of saying "there is no problem that can't be solved with a really big sword," but on arriving at the underground capital, Beethro is startled to find he has to stand in line.

I discovered the DROD series when part 5 was released here on Desura. So now I'm still busy with that part. At first I was a little sceptical about the game but then I decided to give it a try. I don't regret it. It's a unique puzzle game which is very challenging. So this part was an instantbuy for me. It does't have an onther gameplay than part 5 but Call of Duty also has the same gameplay everytime. It also wouldn't make sense to change the gameplay in every new part. What's different in this part of DROD is, that there is an other story and more difficult levels than in part 5. You can see part 5 as DROD for beginners although it's very challenging too but this part here is more challenging. What is left to say is, that I hope to see the other three parts of DROD here on Dedura too.

Just like DROD 4.0 (Gunthro and the Epic Blunder), this game is utterly fantastic. Although not a good game for new players to jump into the series, it is wonderful for veteran players continuing the series. Filled with intriguing new elements, excellent puzzles, and a perplexing storyline that will challenge the philosopher within you, this game should be tried, challenged, and conquered by anyone wanting to sink their teeth in some puzzles.

Thank you, Caravel, for such a wonderful game.

Awesome!

Not the most accessible game in the series (play Journey to Rooted Hold first) but unquestionably the best. The main campaign itself is quite long (took me about 45 hours with only 17% secrets completed) and varied. Nearly every level introduces a new mechanic, along with reintroducing everything from the last game. There's also a ton of very good usermade content.

This is definitively the best logic game series and a this is the best game of that series to date.

DROD: The City Beneath is the third game in a series of turn-based puzzle dungeon crawlers. While the first two games only had small story parts and mostly let you out there on your own to solve the puzzles in each of the hundreds of rooms, in "The City Beneath" all puzzle rooms are connected by a very nice story with many different graphic sets throughout the journey.
While the game may look like a luck-needing time-constrained health-management action game at first glance and some parts of the game can even be played by rushing through and just killing all monsters you come to, the reality is that each monster follows a very strict set of rules and many rooms are much easier if you understand these rules, take your time to think and just make the few sufficient moves that kill the monster, pull the door switch and lead you into the next room. It is very intriguing and I really recommend it to fans of Adventure games, Role Playing games and Puzzle games who seek an easy-to-learn and never-too-hard challenge. The good thing is that if you really should have problems with a certain room, there's the official forums which are visited daily and around-the-clock by helpful people - and there's a good catalog of already discussed puzzles so no need to ask your own question every time if you are still get known to the DROD characteristics.
