You are a God! You are master and ruler of a loyal nation. You have unimaginable powers at your disposal. You have claimed this world as yours. But there are others who stand in your way. You must defeat and destroy these pretenders. Only then can you ascend to godhood and become the new Pantokrator. When you start the game you decide what kind of god you are and how your DOMINION affects your lands and followers. It is an expression of your divine might and the faith of your followers. If your dominion dies, so do you. Your dominion also inspires your sacred warriors and gives them powers derived from your dominion. In order to win and become the one true god you have to defeat your enemies one of three different ways: conquer their lands, extinguish their dominion or claim the Thrones of Ascension. Release version and manual is available now. Manual can be downloaded from Illwinter's web page.

I have always loved this series. Though it takes sometimes more brain power than I am willing to expend on my time off, it is just the best strategy game ever (well, maybe along with the Civilization series, HOMM3, and Total Annihilation)! The few things I felt could be improved were 1) Victory Screen- There really isn't any. I press for next turn and I get a "game over" message. Yeah, I know that had I looked on my last messages there was one at the bottom about victory but that was it!!! I mean come'on, after all the time and effort the developers put into the game and that is it?!! I mean even COE 3 had gold coins (or whatever they were) falling out of the sky and special music. You felt like you had accomplished something. With Dom 4 all you get is "game over". How about sprucing it up a bit? Maybe seeing your pretender god on top of Mt Olympus or something, cool music etc.; and a list of victory points. And on the next page maybe a "Pretender Hall of Fame". Just a thought. 2) I still like playing for the Dominion victory (that is why it's called Dominions, right?), but I found that I could not then play incorporating Thrones of Ascension also, it seems to be an either or deal. I may just have not figured out how to do that yet.
Anyway, thank you developers for a great game. I teach World Religions for a living, and this game is a Mythology text come to life!

Just finished my first (tutorial) game, I cannot wait to get more, love the game system and lore. However, the turn when I achieved victory, I got to the 'game over' dialog described above, and when clicking on 'quit' which was the only option (and I agree with the above, it was a bit underwhelming compared to the overall standard set by the game), I was thrown out of the game and straight back to the desktop. Is it a bug? I would have expected getting back to the title screen. I play on Windows 7 64bits, version 4.04 on Steam.
