The Old God has left the world and the pretenders are awakening and coming out from hiding. You start the game by designing one of the pretender gods that will compete for true ascension to godhood. The type of god can range from a magically powerful arch mage to an ancient kraken or a mystic monolith that people pray to. Your pretender controls one of over sixty different nations and with the help of that nation he will spread his word and battle the other pretenders. Dominions 3 is a turn based strategy game. You can play single- or multiplayer (1 - 23 players) with simultaneous turns. There are more than 1500 different units, 600 spells and 300 magic items in the game. The game also features a medieval musical score by Erik Ask Uppmark and Anna Rynefors, both awarded the title of Musicians of the Realm by the Swedish Zornmärkeskommiten. Dominions 3 is a highly detailed game and a 300 page pdf manual is included in the download.

Yep. I copied and pasted. Not ashamed either. 8)

If anyone wants to change their race let me know. You all are free to post pretenders. I'm gonna put a deadline on Sunday, 8pm, Eastern USA time. We'll start the game on Monday.

Hi, Maybe you can clue me in to how this works. Was there a dedicated signup thread elsewhere for your game or is there some other way it's done? I've been looking to play a game and thought you merely had to be johnny on the spot before they filled up, but seeing this makes me think I am missing some important aspect?

Thanks

In the case of this particular game all the spots are pre-filled because the game started over a week ago, but needs to be re-started as a bug occured (and the admin decided a new thread for the restart).

The usual process for signing up for MP games is pretty much to be "johnny on the spot" as you mention. If you are looking for a game though then I have just created a new game here which you are welcome to sign-up for.

Great. That's a relief. Thank you.

Would it be alright if I switch to Abysia? It seems appropriate, given the title. :P

I have no objections to that. And to anyone else who wants to switch race, that extends out to you as well, provided the race has not been taken, of course. Just notify me here and I'll change it on the board.

My pretender's been re-sent, and I'm good to go with Pangea again.

Incidentally, the title of this game is reminding me that I need to get the last of the "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" movies. :)

Mar 24 2013 Anchor

Haha nice. I've haven't seen them yet. Gonna watch the originals, not the American remakes.

Mar 24 2013 Anchor

The US re-makes aren't "bad" by any means, but they're shot with a more refined, cleaner aesthetic which kind of removes the dark, disturbing atmosphere of the subject matter. I like both versions, but definitely prefer the originals.

Mar 24 2013 Anchor

That's pretty much what I'd heard.

Well, it looks like the deadline is going to be missed for submitting pretenders. We're still three players down. At 8pm, I'll PM the three players, but what do y'all think about starting without, waiting, or getting new players, respectively? I personally have little reservations to any of the options.

Mar 25 2013 Anchor

No excuse for NOT submitting pretenders for a game restarting. Go ahead without them.

Mar 25 2013 Anchor

No strong feelings here, but I don't see a reason to wait very long. There's been enough time since the last game got buggy.

Mar 25 2013 Anchor

Jaffai was slow to get his pretender in last time, too-- yet he's pretty much always on the IRC. Weird.

Not sure on the other two.

Mar 25 2013 Anchor

Pretender sent, sorry for the delay.

Mar 25 2013 Anchor

Looks like we're only short one pretender; I'm fine with either recruiting another player or sending a final reminder to the previous player, but I'd say we should set one final deadline in a day or so and then go ahead with the game once that deadline is reached, so that everyone isn't kept waiting indefinitely.

Mar 25 2013 Anchor

Sorry bout that, I"m going to join immediately.

Mar 25 2013 Anchor

Okie dokie. Since you're active on the thread, you have till tonight at 8. Three hours to submit. Then... it begins. Oh, and so people know, I'll be working all day Tuesday, all night Tuesday and half the day Wednesday, so I may extend the turn length to accommodate. (Military have to pull some shitty shifts at times.)

Mar 25 2013 Anchor

Wait? Are you from Fort Campbell?

Mar 25 2013 Anchor

Nope. Camp Lejeune. Marines.

And we're off. I wish us all a good game, free of bs bugs.

Any way we could roll back the last turn. I lost my Internet for a few days. I was trying to get the turn in on time but It seems I missed the deadline...

Mar 27 2013 Anchor

Hmmm......

"Read this next bit carefully. I seem to be having difficulties explaining it coherently:

Note that once the game is rolled back, it will appear that the game is waiting for 2h files from all players. However, the 2h files from last time the turn was played will in fact be there, and will be used if the game hosts without them being overwritten. This can be useful; often, a game is rehosted in order for only one or two players to retake their turns, while everyone else is expected to make no changes. The game admin can therefore wait till just those players have submitted, and then force hosting. None of the other players will stale (assuming they actually submitted a 2h file last time the turn was played)."

Normally on these grounds I would say yes, however:

"A further reason is a difficulty with game file confusion. Imagine turn 10 has just come out, and someone starts to play the turn. Then the game is rolled back to turn 9, and processed again to make a new turn 10. Unless players delete the 2h file they produced from the original turn 10, Dominions will not know to ignore it and may get seriously confused. This can cause a lot of madness, e.g. soldiers becoming commanders and gaining magic paths, and so on. So if you do do a rollback, make sure to remind players to delete their 2h files."

Because of this, I am very hesitant. I can't assume all the players have checked to forum, or will check it. We've already restarted once, so I'm going to say no. Now, I'd like you to consider the fact that last game, I also staled a turn, and did not call for a rollback, so you can know that at the very least I'm not denying you anything I would not deny myself.

If you or anyone else have any serious objections, I'll listen to them. But this is my current decision and why.

Mar 28 2013 Anchor

Last game I also staled and didnt ask for a rollback, it just happens and itll happen again :)

However, now Im asking for a turn host extension of 36 hrs. I know its not the best time for an extension because the game just restarted but I cant make the current deadline since Im renovating... Sorry all, I hope this isnt too much of an inconvenience.

Mar 28 2013 Anchor

Well I'm going to miss this turn too if we don't extend. I'm moving and don't have Internet. I'm trying to use a flash drive and my work computer but I'm all messed up now.

Mar 28 2013 Anchor

Just ask for extension. 96 hours will be enough?

Mar 28 2013 Anchor

Alrighty. 96 hour extension. Decreed and done. Game will now host on Monday. Autohosting is off as well.
