Sure, it's the colony station with two different kinds of residence districts(to increase the population cap). The pyramid is quality living space, while the huge bocky things are crammed living quarters that come with a moral penalty.
I really like the city system you implemented here. It reminds me of the fantastic city system from the absolutely underrated Rise of Legends, which is one the best RTS-games ever in my humble opinion. Back in those days you could choose between several district types, adding a great variety of possibilities to create a nice and visually amazing looking city. Can't wait to see some city-like fortresses in space. Damn good work!
Everybody says this, but nobody considers that the player should be able see at a glace what he has build on his CS. Building things on the underside would force him/her to rotate around awkwardly. Also: Pbs.twimg.com :)
Other stations with fewer components are designed in a way, that you can see what they are made of from all or most angles, but the colony station fully extended supports 36 districts. So we chose this Nostromo/Atlantis/City-like layout.
He's not asking to be able to build more components on the bottom. Do you see how all the bottoms are identical? He is suggesting that each component have not only the top structure as they do now, but also a bottom structure.
So say you build a crammed living quarters on a hex-base, and it puts the big blocky tower on top, but then it also puts several smaller towers or some-such "hanging" off the bottom.
Not suggesting for additional component spaces on the underside of the platforms, I'm suggesting that the current component pieces have structures indeed hanging off underneath.
To avoid confusion and reduce the twisting of the camera, the structure underneath should look different and be unemphasized compared to the top structure.
That would guarantee to add to orientation of the player's camera.
Thanks HartLord for clearing that up and sorry Banana for the confusion.
I agree, that visually it would be a nice touch and it's technically totally doable.
As it's just a cosmetic feature, it can't be a priority right now though, but I will keep this in mind!
Also, there might be upgrades to the colony station in the future, which also could go on the bottom sides, since the top is mostly covered.
Thanks for your input! I love how committed you people are :D
Wait Wait Wait! Can you actually build this?

I think the building components should have structures built underneath the platform as well.
It'll add to the feeling that it is definitely in space, and not on flat ground.

Yes, as Hartlord has said exactly.
