This game had a lot of polish, and I wanted to give it a fair chance. I have no experience with the earlier games in the series.

I downloaded the demo, and it seemed to work well. My only issue is the interface, which is clearly designed around the touch screen. That would be okay if this game had been developed for mobile devices exclusively, but it confused me a great deal at first, since I had downloaded the demo for the PC and didn't expect this. What led to the most confusion was my inability to get detailed controls information when clicking on the relevant help section. The instructions about the controls were purely visual, and didn' t tell me what I wanted to know. I struggled to understand what the pictures meant. It seemed that they were built around the assumption that you already knew you were playing on a touch screen, which I wasn't.

I want to point out also that my web searches weren't very helpful for clearing up this confusion. Most of what was available were video walkthroughs showing general gameplay. That could be helpful for some situations, but it was useless for my purposes. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I felt like a gool ol' game manual would have really done the trick. After all, you could theoretically watch several videos (a sizable time investment, by the way), and still not know if you are aware of all the functions available to you in the game.

One piece of advice I'd give anyone developing a puzzle game: Make sure the players have a way to learn what general functions are available to them at the start of play: You absolutely do not want them randomly stumbling upon fundamental features and components of play as they go (in puzzlers, at least. In sandboxes, this is just fine). One real source of frustration for me is not being able to solve a puzzle, but not knowing if it's because I'm just not smart enough to solve it (which would be fine), OR if it's that I have yet to discover one very important ability that I have had all along which, had I known about it, would have allowed me to solve the puzzle with ease. If we don't have either a help file or an interactive tutorial that tells us what we can do, and what \we can't do (Can I only push blocks or can I also pull them? Can I push two blocks at once, or can I not? etc.) we are left wondering unnecessarily if we might need some core piece of gameplay information before we can get ourselves unstuck.

The game seems to be rather good on the whole. Just wish I had more core knowledge of its features and functions before getting too far into it.

Did you look at the in-game help on the Home screen? The Help details the controls (Chuck's Challenge 3D was originally designed for a keyboard & mouse):

Regarding how each Game Element works that's part of the game. The idea is the player learns by trial and error. That’s why there is the Undo function. If your not sure about something you can give it a go without being punished. The bottom of the Help page also links you to the Chuck’s Challenge 3D Wiki that documents how each Game Element works:
