Beyond the Storm is a love-letter to the iconic shmup Tyrian, bringing back the same experience from the past while adding improved visuals, new stories and a lot of more content!

History

Informally, I and a friend started to imagine what a Tyrian remake would look like, and what it would be and how it could be executed. And so, on August 17, 2020, I began working on what would one day become Beyond the Storm, a true love letter to the Tyrian game.

There was an idea: I always liked the mechanics of the power generator that Tyrian had. And I found it fascinating, too, the idea of, while watching Star Trek: TNG, Lieutenant Commander La Forge perform an "energy redirection" to overload a particular Enterprise system. And so we imagined, putting these two ideas together: Take the Tyrian's power generator and, instead of it taking the energy directly to the systems, it took the energy to "power cells", that these would actually be connected to one or more systems, allowing overloads, according to the power of the power generator to charge such "cells".

I've gathered a few more ideas, made a field research and, it was clear: We needed a new Tyrian, with the same experience from the past, while correcting a few things but, maintaining the nostalgia.

After that, I've started to remaster every sprite that Daniel Cook made for Tyrian. For the music, I've composed a whole new set of tracks which references each music that Tyrian has, made by Alexander Brandon and Andreas Molnar.

And so the development continues, talking with Jason Emery and Scott Host (yes, from that another game), getting a few tips here and there, and doing a little more each day.

And then, in October 3rd, Tyrian had a spiritual successor!
