Beyond the Darkness is a first person horror / adventure game with puzzle elements. You play as Nicholas Wade who is living in a mansion with fiancée Julia. She inherited the mansion from her father. The small town they live in, Allan’s Creek, has it’s own dark secrets but that’s solely based on conspiracies. One night Nicholas wakes up and something feels off. The noises that woke him up were definitely not made by Julia, but what was it? Is there someone else in the mansion? And where is Julia anyway? Nicholas is off to investigate and it doesn’t take him long to find out something is very wrong. After opening a few doors he realizes there’s no going back. The only way out is through the darkness. Beyond the Darkness does not rely on blood & gore but is being built on atmosphere, tension, and the feeling that something could be out there in the dark.

Hi everyone, It has been far too long since the previous update and there's a big reason for it. Yes, we are still working on Beyond the Darkness and no we didn't quit or take a break.

It has been far too long since the previous update and there's a big reason for it. Yes, we are still working on Beyond the Darkness and no we didn't quit or take a break.

As we were in the middle of wrapping up level 1 and starting to work on level 2, we started running into a few complications. We at least spent 24 hours talking over 10 sessions. We decided it was time to make some drastic changes.

Welcome to Beyond the Darkness 2.0.

In 1.0 we had planned roughly 25 chapters. Some small, some long, and others weren't really chapters but cutscenes or short transitions. All these chapters were spread out over a long story line. After a year of working on the foundation of the game we saw the amount of work for 2 people was a little bit too much. We also had a pile of notes but everything was kinda vague and we were missing some kind of structure.

Beyond the Darkness will no longer get 25 chapters. We will have 6 very clear chapters each with their own theme, enemies and puzzles. Everything eventually will connect. We now have a roadmap for all chapters. We know what the player needs to do to progress, where items will be placed and where puzzles will be located. We worked out every detail of each puzzle in the game and it's all documented.

25 chapters reduced to 6 sounds like we're cutting content but that's not what's happening at all. In fact, the game will be bigger and longer and because we now have everything worked out in detail, it will also make it an easier task for us.
