Introducing one of the heads to be featured in Abomination Tower: Spiker

As a bit of an introduction, my name is Adrian and I'm a one man band indie dev working on this game in my spare time while working a full time day job (development is a little slow because of this). Inspired by games like Super Meat Boy and Spelunky I am trying to create a challenging procedurally generated platformer with high replayability and a unique style.

As you can see in the screenshots I've posted so far our protagonist is headless. This is to allow players to equip one of the various heads that will become available in the game. Different heads will cater to different play styles. Currently the heads provide simple power ups that are seen in many platform games, I'm hoping to come up with some that are a little more unique as development continues.

The first head I want to show you is one currently named "Spiker". The Spiker is a head covered in spikes as you probably guessed. This head allows you to destroy obstacles when you collide with them using your head. This means the head can only destroy things above you so you'll still be vulnerable to obstacles below you. Here is a screenshot of Spiker I just added to the gallery:

It is becoming obvious now that I'm going to have to be very careful about balancing all the heads so there aren't any heads that make the game too easy but it is still early days for the level design so I will have to test a lot of this out with different players and heads.
