3089 is a futuristic, procedurally generated, open-world action role-playing game. All terrain, enemies, weapons, items, quests & more are uniquely generated. You are a promising robotic android design, made by the Overlord, placed on planet Xax. Your performance in common combat, support & intel scenarios is being closely watched. However, will you become too much for them to handle? What else on planet Xax exists that the Overlord doesn’t know about?

That post in a bug report reminded me of a suspicion I'd been having - I was wondering if I'd rolled the same world several times in a row through a bug or if it was a seed system.

Assuming that the latter is true based on the thing about world name, would that mean we could 'share' worlds with other players? For example, if I roll a world which I think is cool, and tell someone else the player name I used (which I presume is also the seed name), could they then generate the same world?

Also, is there any reason why sending someone else your game save file to play wouldn't work? Does there need to be an existing world folder tied to the save file, or could you replace your player or world data independently?

I'm just thinking, it would be really cool to do a "chain game" where one save file goes to many different worlds, or one world file is shared between several players to build in it together. If players could build mazes for each other that would be really interesting... just make sure to put a roof on to stop players grappling/flying their way out :P

Yes, the name of the player is the seed for the world, so using the same name (case sensitive) will generate the same terrain. This is key to how multiplayer works -- I don't need to send terrain data, because they are using the same world seed :)

You could send the folder of your saved game over, but if you wanted your player in it, you'd have to replace the psave.info file in the directory with your own. That *should* work, but I haven't really tested that :P

Other players can join one world to share building in, just that one world would have to be the server & co-op people would have to join up into it...
