Hello everyone.

I am working on bringing together a few people who are smarter than me to help reverse engineer a old game called Heat Online.

The game also goes by the name Project Torque and LevelR.

En.wikipedia.org

It was shutdown in 2014 by the developer and many fans want to play it again.

This year I started collecting as much of the game data as I could and the other week me and a couple others have started to look into the game data to see if there is anything we can do to maybe emulate the server side so we can at least log into the game. Our main goal is to fully emulate the game server so that we can play the game in full again.

We are looking for people who are interested in the project to come join us.

The game engine is quite old and was an in house project by the game developer. There is no documentation or support.

All the game services are offline so we are having trouble working out what files the game wants from the login server.

Hopefully this interests one of you at least.

You can message me on Discord Jackster#3052 or visit Heatonline.tk for files and Discord server.

Have you tried to contact the developers of the game?

According to this En.wikipedia.org the developer's site is that Invictus.com and you can ask them if they could give you the right to use their sources to bring game back online.

If not, you are surely breaking the copyright law by trying to reverse engineer a software not developed by you.

Hi Strouthas

Yes we are in talks with Invictus. They wont give us the source (which is expected) and wont sell it to us either.

It is sort of a legal grey area when it comes to reverse engineering a bit of software. There are many doing it though and not having any issues unless if they are making a lot of dolla.

We have just cracked the encrypted game files open.

All the maps, textures, sounds and cars.

40,000 files in total, nearly 9GB.

Uploaded a few of the files in the sample folder but over 40,000 files and nearly 9GB in total so we have ZIPed everything.
All available to view and download here Heatonline.tk

As a developer my self I disagree with what you say.

It is not a grey area to disassemble/decompile/reverse engineer a software. It is protected by the copyright laws even if it is not trademarked.

Not having the explicit permission of the original author to do so (even if they are not doing business anymore which is not the case here) you are not authorized to alter the original files or extract any kind of information from them.

This applies even if you are not going to earn a cent from that action.
