new and need help understanding what im workin with Thread

Ok so last time I even played games on a PC was 2004 on my dad's crappy dell. I always wanted to get into PC gaming but just never took the important first step of buying one. So years went on and long story short, my new promotion included a crappy work laptop that i now have. I have such little knowledge about computers but was curious to see if it could even run anything, so on a gamble i bought half life 2 from steam (gotta start where i left off in 2004) and it runs it perfectly. This laptop has intel core i5-8350u cpu @1.70ghz and 8 gb ram and runs on windows 10. That's all i can find when i searched it for specs and i don't even know what it even means really. I'm so green at this that i been judging games running ok on this by the 1.70ghz processor as a starting point. i really started getting into mods and been playing the crap out of brutal doom and death wish for blood. Games i played on release as a kid and I'm loving playing these in an entire new way. Ok enough babbling on, I am wondering what kind of games is possible on this thing and if anyone can help me figure out what I'm working with here. Now I'm fully addicted and am saving up to finally buy a good PC of my own but with 2 kids it's gonna take some time... so I'm gonna be playing around with this thing until then. Need to know if this thing is a pile of garbage and if so what system requirements should i be looking at to compare if this can run it. I mainly stick to older games bc i don't think this can handle anything past the year 2006, and i need to know if I'm wrong about that guess. Oh and I'm finally playing Vampire masquerade bloodlines for the first time ever and I'm loving it. Always wanted to play it and I installed the patch from here. This really is becoming a new hobby of mine and I'm excited as i read and learn the ins and outs of PCs like I'm some 8th grader but in reality I'm F'n OOOOLLLLLLDDDDD. I know how you feel, I have old PC as well and can't run new games at all.

Maybe you could browse old games here hopefully they haven't been removed by respective devs yet.

Alternatively, you can try finding games here: Izzygames. They are old games but might be working in your laptop.

4 Cores with 8 Threads, Turbo Speed 3,6Ghz .. if system specs say 3,6ghz quad-core it should work. common problem with laptops is the weak GPU, too.

A place i need to mention here is Gog.com , where you can also find lots of those older and even much older games. ( AMIGA )

Some of them were originally even not written for PCs. Its worth a look !
