Free Heroes of Might and Magic II (fheroes2) is a recreation of HoMM2 game engine. This open-source multi-platform project is aimed to fully replicate the original game with meaningful changes for gameplay, graphics and logic, bringing a new life to one of the most anticipated turn-based strategies. The project is in active phase of development and once reaching 1.0 version will be continued with an add-on development.

It is in active development now. We make new releases with a plenty of fixes almost every month!
You can try pre-release from our Github project page.
You can contribute this project if you have some C++ experience..
Even simple bug searching or promotion can help us!

I joined the Discord, happy to get news about updates! I'll be looking for bugs when downloading on Mac is fool-proof.. (yep that's how much of a noob I am lol)

You can ask for help in Discord, if you have troubles with installing the fheroes2.
Also, we need a large group of playing people, so we can find a fix more bugs. So your help is appreciated. Especially on Mac.

No, I mean you should make a mod page here on ModDB where you can upload the latest release, news and whatever. You'll probably get a lot more coverage than any forum. And if it's not finished yet, you can just mark it as TBD (release to be determined)

Even if it's a complete remake you're still using the original game's assets so it still counts as a mod because it can't run on its own legally.

There's a still substantial difference: we don't modify the original files of the game. We create a separate application, which works with the original files, you've bought from publisher.
