EYEBALL VEGETABLES (skip to the bottom for TL;DR)

Welcome to my recruiting advertisement! It's a beautiful place to be on this rainy Oregon day*.

I'm looking for a new project to sink my teeth into and I want it to be yours! I'm not a developer by any stretch of the imagination. But what I do bring to the table is a heavily stretched imagination. So well-worn, in fact, that I make music in between projects for no purpose other than to hear it myself. Some of it, the world will never hear which is a crying shame.

"Ian, that's just insane," says you.

I know. Trust me, I'm crying inside. But it won't stop, so you might as well take advantage of me sooner than later before all the good ideas are out in the world**.

Now, I'm a professional composer but I've got a huge soft spot for indie developers so I'm willing to be quite flexible in terms of fees. I need a project that resonates emotionally on any level and has distinct imagery, no matter if it's simple or complex. I have years of hard-earned skill and a bunch of new toys at my disposal so you'll be at the bleeding edge of my creative output. As long as I'm at the edge of yours, we can make magic happen.

Some pros of working with me:

  • I'm not laid back when it's business time, but I'm easy to get along with
  • I have an equal passion for games and music, and I can speak both languages
  • Skype sessions may include cute interruptions by my 2-year old tomboy/daughter and her soon-to-arrive brother
  • I'm stupidly familiar with video game, film, television and concert music, so if you say something like, "That one thing from that scene where the thing happens, and the music goes all BLWWAAOOOOP and the dudes are all like AAAHHHH...you know?" I'll be like, "I totally know."
  • You need to change something at the last minute before release? Bring it on.

Some cons of working with me:

  • I've got a big scar on the top of my head that might be distracting if we are on Skype and I'm not wearing a hat. Could derail all productivity, in fact. Be forewarned.
  • Have you ever had someone explain something to you and they were super excited about it and got carried away, and you could just tell that there's like 200% more context in their head that you aren't aware of, and you are left in the dust with maybe a quarter of what they're trying to explain? That, sometimes.
  • I've noticed that I often say "yes" to things that need to be told "hang on a sec bro, let's discuss that". So if you feel like you're in way too much control of the direction of things for some reason and need to give up creative liberty for your sanity's sake, tell me and I will get after it Navy SEAL-style. I'm resourceful in epic proportions.

TL;DR

Let's dance and make sweet music together. Check out my profile for recent sounds I've made. There's a lot and it's all good. Want to pitch a project to me? Send me as much as you can in broad strokes (PM or email), and if I'm interested I will compose a sample track for you to try to ball park a feel for the project. If you like anything you hear, we can move forward at your discretion.

Stay classy,

Ian Knowland
