Fight legions of oversized slugs in this 2-level demo version of Tadpole Interactives's upcoming PS1-themed retro 3-D brawler.
With the full version of SNAILS nearing completion, here's a brief demo version, featuring two of the seven maps to be featured in the subsequent release of the game.
THE GAME:
Heavily inspired by such PSX-released 3-dimensional beat'em ups as "Nightmare Creatures", "SNAILS" is a retro-throwback action game reminiscent of late-90's era PS1 titles.
The stand sci-fi "B-movie" premise involves an interstellar invasion by an entourage of gigantic mutant snails, which prowl cities and neighborhoods looking to consume all human life in their vicinity.
You assume control of plucky little 7-year old Dora Ditze, who recovered from an overnight case of the flu, only to have a horde of these flesh-eating monstrosities literally bash in her front door, leaving her stranded, without assistance, and with little incentive other than to seek refuge at the nearby elementary school. After that, who knows?
GAMEPLAY:
"SNAILS" is a simple 3-D brawler in which you attempt to bash your enemies into submission, while dodging or countering their attacks. Some enemies will attempt to bite or stab you up close, while others prefer to hurl toxic substances at you from a distance.
The simple objective of each level is to fight your way to the finishing point of each level, whilst disposing of as many adversaries as you can. Cookies can be collected to replenish your health, and occasionally keys will be required to unlock doors.

The full version of this game will include:
- seven levels of oversized-snail-infested mayhem
- 8+ minutes worth of cheesy pre-rendered cinematics

- "load level" capabilities
Installation:
Simply extract the contents of the downloaded .zip folder into the desired directory and run by double-clicking on the "SNAILS demo.exe" file.
VARIOUS SURVIVAL TIPS:
- Rear attack can be instituted while simultaneously holding down the frontal attack button.
- Employ "rear attack" frequently when surrounded by enemies.
- The "straddle-kick" maneuver (which can be triggered by pressing "left", "right" and "Z", simultaneously) is an effective means of dispersing enemies converging from the sides.
- When confronted by Spitting Snails, try using other enemies in your vicinity as cover, if possible.
- Don't forget to dodge. If you find yourself getting clobbered, try diving away from the melee, then re-engage from a more advantageous position.
